Investors take vacations... Markets don't [Money Morning LIVE] Dow Jones | 33,951 | -0.30% S&P 500 | 33,951 | 0.30% Nasdaq | 33,951 | -0.30% *prices as of 4:00 pm 6/21/22 --------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, June 30, 2023 The Big One: --------------------------------------------------------------- It’s the Friday before a looong holiday weekend. But that doesn't mean it'll be a lazy one for investors. As always, the most diehard of traders are waiting for that opening bell to ring. But millions of others are already in their cars sucking on exhaust fumes or standing in long queues to be hurled through the sky in aluminum tubes like gods. More than [43 million Americans]( will cram into cars this Fourth of July weekend. Their destination: family, friends, explosions, and the antacid aisle at the pharmacy. Sure, there are earnings in play today, like last night's results from Nike (NKE). We then have Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) out at 8:30 AM EST... of which we showed investors what to expect in yesterday's Pre-Market Prep. But for the most part, it's shaping up to be a low-volume day. Of course, that doesn't mean easy sailing... low-volume days can be notoriously volatile. After all, tug of war is easy to win if no one's pulling on the other side. Consider, over the past 15 years, the day before the Fourth of July has delivered some wild returns. For example, we saw losses of more than 1.5% on the Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) in 2017 and 2018. And we notched gains of more than 1.1% in 2011 and 2022. So, days like these are prone to big swings. Of course, if that PCE trend we outlined yesterday holds true, investors could be seeing fireworks of green. Below you'll find the details and names to know for the "Business of Independence." There's plenty to peruse whether in a car, on a plane, lounging by the lake, or merely staring at your phone screen in bed, counting the minutes until the long weekend begins... --------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the Money: With Garrett {NAME} --------------------------------------------------------------- The greatest trade of the year just hit us smack in the face... Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) plopped down another $122 million for Occidental Petroleum (OXY) shares. The Oracle of Omaha now holds a 25% stake in OXY. Plus, Berkshire has authorization to own up to half the company. I love Warren Buffett. And he just hands us money over and over again. So... keep selling those puts. Keep generating capital. You don't even have to own the stock. Just keep selling spreads at $55 or less on OXY. Because we see Buffett is happy to buy between the $56 to $58 range. --------------------------------------------------------------- Across Money Morning --------------------------------------------------------------- Flight No. 1776 is Now Ready to Board... June 16, 2023... The Travel Safety Administration (TSA) announced that the 2.8 million people who passed through security checkpoints that day was the most in history. Well, that title is expected to be short lived. This holiday weekend projects to set new highs for air travel - with today being the real star. TSA is prepping for 2.82-million Americans shuffling through security before the day is over. Of course, this bodes well for the likes of United (UAL), Delta (DAL), American (AAL), Southwest (LUV), and other airlines. But it is far from just this weekend that's boosted their bottom lines. There [hasn't been a single day]( in 2023 where the number of travelers passing through TSA checkpoints was fewer than its 2022 counterpart. And as travelers look to make up for lost time after the pandemic, many expect this summer - [dubbed the "Summer of Revenge, Part II" by some]( - to only continue this record pace. One Sector That's Definitely Fired Up... Get those charcoal starters out of storage or make sure your propane tank is full. Perhaps the only thing more important than food on Fourth of July is, well... freedom. And when it comes to types of food on the menu, meat reigns supreme - much to the delight of Tyson (TSN), Sysco (SYY), Smithfield Foods (SFD), and others. According to the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council (yes, that's a real thing), Americans consume roughly [150 million]( hot dogs on the Fourth. While unofficial, estimates peg the number of burgers consumed that day somewhere [around 375 million](. In total, freedom celebrators will drop approximately [$7.1 billion]( on food for the Fourth of July. Roughly 65% of the country will attend or host a cookout, barbeque, or picnic. So whether your condiment of choice is mustard or ketchup, don't lose sight of the business side of the holiday when you celebrate our nation's independence. [This Could Be the Answer to a Frustratingly Sideways Market](... When the market is teetering on an edge - stuck between bull and bear - it can be a challenge for even the most veteran of traders. The Dow is up one day... down the next. In stretches like these, every potential advantage is vital. Well, Tom Gentile is here to help. He once designed a trading system that was scooped up by a major Wall Street player. So he knows innovation when he sees it. And he's pretty fired up right now to demonstrate a trading software he uncovered - one that's never existed before. [He's revealing details right here](. Bear FAANGs Are Out, Saddle Up with "The Magnificent Seven" ... The market rallied in 2009 on the backs of a group of five stocks - the illustrious "FAANG." Well, a new bull market is here... and it's similarly being driven by a select posse of tickers - "[The Magnificent Seven]( On the cutting edge of tech and AI, the names of these companies aren't anything new. Some were even members of the FAANG. But the most important part is how you're maximizing their value in your portfolio. That's why [Shah Gilani recorded a video laying out his plan of attack]( to buy these stocks at their best possible value - and ride their momentum to heights unseen. --------------------------------------------------------------- Chart of the Day: There's No "Summer Lull" Here! --------------------------------------------------------------- Fifteen consecutive years. That's the streak the Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) has posted gains in July. Think about that... The Nasdaq 100 has pushed higher in July even during a global financial crisis, the downgrade of U.S. debt, a European debt crisis, trade wars with China, a global pandemic AND a Federal Reserve rate hike bonanza that actually sent the Nasdaq spiraling into a bear market. But none of that mattered... at least not in July. There's no friendly trend for tech than this one.
