But it is true that many well-known healthcare stocks have shown strength in 2022. The top performing large-cap stocks in the space include names like McKesson (MCK), Teva Pharmaceuticals (TEVA), Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX), Cigna (CI), and Bristol-Myers (BMY). This makes sense, since healthcare stocks like this are largely viewed as unconnected to the broader economy. In this way, you could view healthcare stocks as somewhat "defensive" in nature.
