My commitment to upholding his vision for a free, multiracial democracy has never been stronger. Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As a candidate for Congress, my commitment to fighting for his vision of a free, multiracial democracy has never been stronger. Dr. King’s hope for our nation went far beyond equal treatment under the law. He devoted his life not just to racial justice, but economic justice, including fair wages, housing, a high-quality education, and more. He fought relentlessly for equitable access to the ballot box and the fundamental right to vote. Nearly 56 years after his death, Dr. King’s vision of a free and fair democracy faces its greatest challenge in generations. As Republicans cling to Donald Trump’s hateful and authoritarian message, state legislatures across the country have introduced a record number of subversive election laws to disenfranchise Black and brown voters. And in Congress, Republicans oppose voting rights legislation. There has never been a more urgent time to fight for Dr. King’s vision and take up his call to action. Last year, I was honored to join Dr. King’s family in Arizona where we marched together in support of passing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. As I stood alongside his family, it was clear that the best way to truly honor Dr. King’s legacy is to keep fighting in the halls of Congress for policies that will strengthen our civil rights, defend our freedoms, and get us closer to the multiracial democracy for which he gave his life. [MLK Jr Day]( Dr. King never gave up. And neither will we. Yours in the Struggle, Mondaire Mondaire Jones is running for Congress to finish the work he started last term. He’s ready to fight to lower costs for residents of the Hudson Valley, defend our democracy, raise wages, and protect reproductive rights for all. And he’s doing it without a penny from corporate PACs.
