Dear reader, At Modern Mrs Darcy HQ, mid-May means one thing: it's almost time for our . For twelve

Dear reader, At Modern Mrs Darcy HQ, mid-May means one thing: it's almost time for our [Summer Reading Guide](). For twelve years now, we've been releasing the guide shortly before Memorial Day so readers can kick off summer in style and plan a wonderful season of reading. But for me, "summer reading season" starts back in the fall. I know that sounds weird, but hear me out! Since 2013, I've read every single book in the guide, cover to cover. (That's because in 2012 I recommended some forthcoming releases I hadn't yet read in our first guide, ended up hating them, and felt AWFUL about including them!) There are 50 books in this year's guide, all published in 2023. In the guide, I'm not just recommending books I've read, but books I've read and LOVED. That's a high standard, and it takes a lot of reading to get there. I wouldn’t say it’s hard, exactly, to find books for the guide. (If it were hard, this year there would only be 42 titles. Or 30!) There are heaps of great books coming out this year (publishing is weird like that, plus we're still playing catch up with 2020 and 2021 novels that got pushed back). But still: to find 50 books I love enough to shout from the rooftops? That's a tall order. So I scour industry news for books I might want to read. (To give you a sense of how this works: I added two titles to my master spreadsheet today that don't publish until 2025.) I sift through pitches from publicists. I talk to every reader I know (and author, and agent, and editor) who has their eyes on the publishing horizon. And of course I read, read, read… all to find 50 4-star and 5-star reads. But reading is personal, and timing is everything. You don't read exactly like me, and that's what makes the reading life so endlessly fascinating. That's also why in our guide, I don't just gush about why these books are perfect for me. I describe why these books might be perfect for you. I try to talk about them in such a way that you can decide if a book belongs on your TBR, or if you'd be happier passing it by for this season. At our live Summer Reading Guide Unboxing, happening now for our 5th year, I can take it a step—maybe several steps—further, providing more nuance on each title, and answering specific reader questions about theme, tone, mood, and content. Summer is short, but a good book will stay with you forever. Our Summer Reading Guide is packed with good books, and will be here on May 18. If you want your copy in your inbox at 8:00am EDT on May 18, preorder yours now. [Preorder Now](=) The MMD Summer Reading Guide is a free perk for our member communities in the MMD Book Club and What Should I Read Next patreon. If you don't have the time or inclination to join a community, the guide can also be purchased a la carte. (Which option is right for you? [We help you decide right here.]()) Everyone who receives the guide is invited to our live Unboxing event where I share more—live and on video—about each of our included 2023 titles. Our Unboxing and replay are included with your ticket, and will be ready and waiting for you whenever you want to access them this summer. I’m so excited for the reading season to come. It's going to be a good one, friends. Happy (summer) reading! Anne © Anne Bogel | 291 N Hubbards Ln Ste 172-225, Louisville, Kentucky 40207 [Unsubscribe from all MMD emails](

Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
