Hey readers, I've spoken to so many of you over the years who not only love to read, but also have a passion for writing. Whether you love drafting morning pages, have a novel in the works, or never dreamed of doing anything of the sort, I think you'll be inspired by my conversation with today's guest about the power of writing and reading to bring us joy and teach us about ourselves. Nashville writing coach Allison Fallon works with writers of all levels and aspirations, encouraging the common threads of happiness and possibility that inspire so many of us to put pen to paper. Today we talk all about it—and also dig into her reading life, of course! I offer suggestions for how she can overcome her current struggle: finding time to read as much as she'd like. Ally's looking for powerful stories that speak to the human experience, are well-written, and compelling on the page. I'm excited to share a few titles I think she'll love today. Find us wherever you get your podcasts. To see the full list of titles Ally and I discuss today, [check out the show notes here](). Connect with Ally at her [website](=) or on [Instagram](), and [pick up her book to learn more about the power of writing it down](=). 3 things I love: 1. These [images of readers in New York City from as far back as 1938]( are just delightful. I particularly like the vintage bookmobiles. 2. I'm excited to join NC indie Main Street Books for a virtual holiday gift recommendation event on November 19th! Join the celebration live for a chance to ask your bookish gifting question. Plus, [tickets](=) include a copy of My Reading Life, so you can add that to your eventual gift package, or just keep it for yourself. 3. Did you know that [Shel Silverstein was a Grammy-winning songwriter]()? I did not! 1 thing I don't: The continued supply chain woes are hitting small businesses hard, as they lack both resources to find workarounds and the ordering power to compete with larger companies, [as this article lays out](). While my publisher isn't a mom-and-pop shop, they're feeling the pain too: despite their best efforts, they are out of stock on My Reading Life. Fortunately, there are a bunch of copies available through retailers (like your local indie bookstore!), but once those copies are sold, it won't be back in stock until well into 2022. [Grab yours now](=) while you still can! What I'm reading now I just finished listening to WSIRN alum Mallory O'Meara's new book [Girly Drinks: A World History of Women and Alcohol](=). This wasn't a topic I thought I longed to read about, but I love Mallory's work, so I gave it a try. I'm so glad I did! What a (wry, salty, often irreverent) delight. Mallory does a fabulous job reading her own story, and while this is a deeply nerdy thing to mention I'm going to do it anyway: unlike in many audiobooks, she actually reads the acknowledgements, and they are superb. Happy reading, friends! Anne P.S. How's your holiday shopping going? If you're looking for some ideas, be sure to check out our bookish gift guides for [kids]() and [grown-ups](=), and if you missed it, give a listen to [episode 304]( for our annual holiday gifting recommendations! © Anne Bogel | 291 N Hubbards Ln Ste 172-225, Louisville, Kentucky 40207 [Opt out of What Should I Read Next? news only]() | [Unsubscribe from all MMD emails](
