Hey readers! Today I'm chatting with two of my favorite people to talk books with, and I can't wait

Hey readers! Today I'm chatting with two of my favorite people to talk books with, and I can't wait for you to listen. You might remember way [back in Ep 60]() ("The last page can make it or break it"), guest Mel Joulwan and I talked about her love for books with a "strong sense of place." Mel realized she loves to travel in her literary life, and in the years since we first chatted on What Should I Read Next she’s made that her priority in big, delightful ways, along with her husband Dave Humphreys. (And, as you'll hear, in December of 2018 with my husband Will and me IN SCOTLAND). Mel and Dave are joining us today to chat about their reading journey together, fulfilling their long-time dream to move across the Atlantic, and their new [destination-reading podcast aptly named Strong Sense of Place](=). Plus, they're recommending three books with great atmosphere they think I'll enjoy. (I can't even tell you how many of my library holds Mel and Dave are responsible for right now. SO MANY.) Listen to my conversation with Mel and Dave in your favorite podcast app or if you don't have a podcast app, listen in Spotify, tell your smart speaker to "play the next episode of What Should I Read Next," or listen [directly on our website](). Thank you Patreon Supporters: Today's episode was titled with help from our Patreon supporters. Titling is one of the toughest things we do for each episode (seriously) and for this week's episode, we put the power in the hands of our contributing readers. Hear about–and participate in–the behind the scenes of [how the show gets made by becoming a supporter](). = 3 things I love: - Amidst current conversations of gatekeepers, enjoy [this fascinating tale of a beloved book and the gatekeeper who hated it](. - While in New York last week to record the audiobook of Don't Overthink It, I visited this [exhibit of Women at Work](=). It was fascinating and included a Charlotte Brontë sampler that compelled me to text today's guest (listen to the episode to hear why). - [The Independent ranks Jane Austen film adaptations](–endless fun, and fuel for debate. 1 thing I don't: National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize winner [Mary Oliver died this past week](=). This is sad news for the whole literary community. If you haven't read any Mary Oliver this would be a great week to pick up one of her poetry collections. What I'm reading now: With my book tour scheduled I have a full spring calendar—which means I've been reading up on all of your guest submissions, because I need to record quite a few episodes between now and my March 3 book release! Even though I can't talk to everyone on the show, I love hearing what you all say about your reading life. If you want to send us a submission to appear on the show do that at [whatshouldireadnextpodcast.com/guest](). I also just started t[he forthcoming N. K. Jemisin novel]( and WHOA. I'll never fail to be astounded by the imaginations of great authors. Join my launch team: Speaking of Don't Overthink It: the launch team is OPEN! [Get the lowdown here](. I hope you'll join us! Happy reading, and happy listening! Anne P.S. For a full list of the books mentioned in this episode or to review a transcript visit the podcast website, [whatshouldireadnextpodcast.com/219](. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
