...all because I left something in my hotel safe. A taxi raced it to the airport... but it arrived too late unfortunately Is there some problem you can't solve in your business, which is keeping you from getting to the next level? If so, I've probably given the answer in one of these 681 videos. [Take a look here.](41475b/ct0_0/1?sid=TV2%3A0vOrocyW6) [MOBE DAILY](41475b/ct1_0/1?sid=TV2%3A0vOrocyW6) [] [START YOUR BUSINESS](41475b/ct2_0/1?sid=TV2%3A0vOrocyW6) [] [SCALE YOUR BUSINESS](41475b/ct3_0/1?sid=TV2%3A0vOrocyW6) [] [GROW YOUR WEALTH](41475b/ct4_0/1?sid=TV2%3A0vOrocyW6) [] MOBE Daily #167 “Among the greatest tragedies is a person who believes that they aren’t meant to win, by winning I mean find their purpose, passion, and joy in life. They believe that other people have better DNA or happiness genes or something, but that they themselves are missing a critical chromosome. This is a lie and it is begging to be unbelieved. For the moment we know the truth about ourselves, we can take both responsibility for our own lives and inspired action to create exactly the life which is our birthright. In other words, you were meant to win.” ~ Jacob Nordby Hey, Right about now, I was meant to be landing into Fiji's airport. Instead, I'm in a hotel room in New Zealand because I missed my flight. Actually, what happened was I left my passport in the safe at my last hotel, realized at the airport as I was about to check in, then had that same hotel race the passport to me in a taxi. If I'd have had the taxi leave 2 minutes earlier, I would have made the flight. There's no other flights today, so I will get the first one out in the morning. S#*& happens sometimes, and as an entrepreneur you just have to roll with the punches. Which makes a nice topic for today's email; taking full responsibility. "If it's to be, it's up to me." A cliche, but a very true one. In business, everything is your fault. When things go right, you played an enormous role in that. When things go wrong, you also played an enormous role in that. This is the mentality you MUST adopt if you want to achieve big things. It's not up to anyone else to keep you accountable, or motivate you, or keep you on track. All the time I have my students tell me, "Matt, I know I should be building my list, emailing my list, selling more, promoting more. But I just get so busy with life! I need someone to keep my accountable!" A long time ago when I used to do paid consulting, I had a person buy a coaching program from me where they'd get to work one-on-one with me every week for an hour. I'd tell her exactly what she needed to do over the next 7 days, including the top 3 priorities. The following week, we'd get on the call again and nothing had got done. I'd always ask, "why not?" The tasks would have taken less than a few hours had she given them her focused attention. Her answer was always something like, "Well, I had to take care of a few things that came up," or, "I had to go buy some new clothes for my job," etc. It was obvious she was coming up with things to do, as a way to procrastinate and avoid the essential things I was coaching her on. Her biggest enemy was herself, but she couldn't see it. And I realized she was scared of success. She'd was stuck in a comfort zone, which she didn't like, but it was familiar. We all do this to some extent. So what can you do about it? You need to continuously remind yourself why you got into business in the first place. It's never just the money - there's an outcome to the money you want. Are you doing it for your family? Do you want to spend more time at home with your kids and watch them grow up? Do you want to travel the world and not be tied to a desk job? There could be a lot of other reasons - what's your reason? For me, is was always about location freedom and having options. I don't like living in someone elses created structure. I need complete freedom on how I spend my time, where I travel to, where I get to stay, and who calls the shots. So by holding all of that at the forefront of my mind during the start-up phase of my business, I was able to work through any challenge. I never had any problem with being self-accountable. No one ever had to tell me "you should be working now" or "you're not working at this hard enough." Identify what the real motivation is for you, write it out, and stay focused on that. On to today's content... (by the way - there's some MAJOR changes coming to mobe.com - you'll hear about them in the next few weeks. Can't wait to reveal them to you!) Ken McArthur came up with something he calls McArthur's Law: "You make a difference, whether you want to or not." Think about the people who have had the biggest impact on your life. In many cases, they may not even know how much they impacted you. They didn't necessarily set out to change your life, but sometimes, that's the effect they have. You too will have an impact on thousands of people, and most of the time you won't even know it. Ken talks more about this phenomenon in [this video](41475b/ct5_1/1?sid=TV2%3A0vOrocyW6), filmed at the [Titanium Mastermind](41475b/ct6_0/1?sid=TV2%3A0vOrocyW6) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Don't be insulted by this. It doesn't mean I think of you as cows or sheep. It means that as a marketer, you should build a following that you shepherd, protect, lead and help. Think of your "herd" as a community that gathers around your brand. In [this video](41475b/ct7_1/1?sid=TV2%3A0vOrocyW6), I talk about strategies to gather a community or a "herd." The team meeting agenda recommended by the book is something that Paul Kirchoff has adopted in his company. He's found that there is no more efficient meeting agenda than this one. It gets the most issues solved in the least amount of time. He has his leadership team run their meetings by this agenda, every sub department run their meetings by this agenda and even the client meetings by the same agenda.
