[IMAGE] DON'T FORGET THE IMPORTANT PART: THE INTERVIEW Learn what to do in an interview, so you don't end up in a bad client deal. You can avoid bad interactions with clear communication. As a business owner solving a problem for a client, you are in charge of the conversation. But how can you use the interview to establish clear guidelines and find the clients you love working with? 1. Know your worth and don't back down. If a client isn't willing to pay what you're asking, politely decline the arrangement and point them to a freelancer within their price range. 2. Know the company culture you mesh well with. (Example: Hate hustle culture? Make sure to work with clients who respect your time.) 3. Let your client know how you work best. 4. Be honest about what you can take on. 5. Get to the root of the problem you're trying to solve. 6. Get clear about who you'll be working with and answering to. I always liked to draw, paint and create things. I've never managed to get into proper art school, but I was determined to learn digital art skills on my own. In the beginning, I was mainly involved in web design, but later I realized that graphic design and illustration give me more satisfaction and that's what I do for a living since then. ð¨ How would you describe your design process? At the moment I mostly create design assets based on vintage art from a century ago or older. So I collect some interesting old books or pictures and search for images that can be attractive and useful for a modern designer. I scan them in hi-res, do some cleaning in Photoshop, and often go to Illustrator to vectorize them. Through the years I've managed to work out the best methods for restoring and vectorizing old pictures. The end of the process is creating a final thematic pack of assets, creating some great previews, and publishing the product to the marketplace. ð What is a fun fact about yourself? I really like the sea, lakes, and rivers. I love spending time on the beach, near the water, and most of all in the water, but I still can't swim. :D ð¤ What can we expect from you next? More collage assets and vintage engravings. I also love typography and type design, so I hope that I finally find the time to create some fonts. ð¡ What is most challenging about
your line of work? I don't know if it's challenging but sometimes I get a bit tired of going through the millions of vintage graphics. I often spend more time searching and collecting old imagery than actually designing. â Coffee or tea (or what is your go-to drink)?
