Scroll down for the answer... --------------------------------------------------------------- PATTERNS A Fresh Take on Plaid + Tips to Use it Right Plaid is a timeless pattern that adds warmth and character to any space. Letâs take a look at its origins. ðHistory of Plaid Plaid originally emerged in Scotland. Formerly known as "tartan", it represented different clans through unique colors and patterns. In the 19th century, it gained popularity in England and the United States, especially during the Victorian era. Plaid has since evolved beyond its Scottish roots, becoming a global design trend with vast interpretations across fashion, interior design, and other fields. ðï¸Tips for Using Plaid Whether it's fashion or interior design, too much plaid can look cliché. So, how do you use it right? Here are some tips to help you make the most out of it: 1. Choose the Right Colors: Begin with colors and patterns you enjoy. Repeat colors from your palette and add new hues for variety. This creates a cohesive, balanced design. 2. Pair it with Other Patterns: Plaid works well with a variety of other patterns, such as florals or geometrics. Mixing patterns adds dimension and energy to your designs. 3. Use Plaid in Unconventional Ways: Don't limit yourself to traditional uses of Plaid. Experiment with the pattern in unexpected places and applications to create a fresh and modern look. 4. Mix Scales: Combine different scales of patterns for visual interest. Pair large-scale plaids with smaller patterns or solids to create depth and contrast. 5. Balance Design Elements: Plaid can add sophistication and grounding to your work. Use it to offset more whimsical or delicate elements for a well-rounded design.
