{NAME}, I am so proud of all that we have accomplished, but first as a community we need to address the heartbreaking tragedy that took place in our state yesterday. Children that should have been safe at school were killed by senseless gun violence. It’s a travesty that in this country, in our state, parents can’t send their children to school without the fear of gun violence. [That’s why today I’m asking you to please consider donating to this GoFundMe supporting the families of the victims of the Uvalde school shooting.]( My heart is with the people of Uvalde, a community that now joins so many others across the United States that have been devastated by a mass shooting. My faith teaches me to love my neighbor and to fight for what’s right and that’s why I know we have to push Congress to do something and finally say, ‘enough is enough.’ It’s clear the status quo has failed us, and we must bring change to Congress. And that’s why I stepped up to run in the first place because South Texans deserve more — affordable health care, affordable college, better quality jobs, and investments that put people over profits. That’s what it’s going to take to get our economy back on track and keep our families safe. As of right now, we are still up by 23 votes in the runoff election for the Democratic nomination. This is due to the hard work of our incredible grassroots coalition, volunteers who knocked on doors, called voters, and did whatever they could to reclaim the power of our community. Though the race is too close to call, we are heartened by the clear path to victory.
