M&G Mornings | Wed 05 Apr ? , reggae and his feel-good theology. With a wit only he can pull off

[View in browser]( [Mail & Guardian]( M&G Mornings | Wed 05 Apr   [Ozayr Patel] The Mail & Guardian’s theme this week is God, so I’ll stay in line and tell you about some of the stories we have coming this week. In my article I explore why every Muslim has a duty to look after the natural environment. It looks at how crucial it is to treat the creatures on Earth with kindness, which will lead to one being rewarded with kindness. Looking after the Earth and everything from plants and animals to water, must be prioritised. Islam notes this several times in the Qur’an. My colleague Sheree Bega writes about the role God plays in the lives of game rangers. They believe that without the help of God, they would not survive the dangerous job they do daily. In one instance, a ranger was bitten by a black mamba and in hospital saw a nurse in a white outfit next to him. But the nurses wear blue. He was convinced it was divine intervention. In her piece, Sarah Smit takes us to her childhood temple, the Yeoville library. She writes of her fleeting childhood experiences with her mother, who was a librarian there. The building, now in disrepair, in one of Joburg’s most fabled suburbs offered a whole lot more than books. And then there’s Drew Forrest’s article on the other prophet — [Bob Marley]( reggae and his feel-good theology. With a wit only he can pull off, Paddy Harper, writes about the second coming of Jesus. Not the one Christians believe in. Instead, he is talking about Gabriel Fernando de Jesus, the Arsenal striker who is returning from injury in time to push them closer to an English Premier League win. If the London-based side are to win their first title since the 2003-04 season, they will be reliant on the goal-scoring, pressing and overall game of the Brazilian forward. Jesus has been crucial to their title challenging exploits this year. There are many more stories related to God this week. Keep an eye out for some fascinating reads.
