[View in browser]( [Mail & Guardian]( M&G Mornings | Thu 17 Nov At the start of the year, we called out the Minister of Tourism – Lindiwe Sisulu – for campaigning for the ANC presidency instead of focussing on her ministerial job. Given that we were just emerging after two years of the Covid-19 pandemic that had brought the industry as a whole to its knees, her portfolio was in desperate need of a champion. So it came as no surprise that Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Tourism plans to ask the National Assembly speaker to discipline Sisulu after she failed to appear before the committee to account for her ministerial portfolio. Her behaviour speaks to the fact that for many in the high echelons of the party, the ANC is bigger than the state. This is the biggest problem with how this country has been governed over the past two decades. It’s the pursuit of a prominent role in the ANC and its NEC over everything else. I wonder how many NEC meetings Sisulu has missed this year.
