[View this email in your browser]( November 06, 2022 [Mail & Guardian]( [Twitter]( [Facebook]( [Instagram]( [YouTube]( Hi there, The Mail & Guardian has done a six-part podcast series on the story of the ANC after Polokwane conference of 2007 It was dubbed to many as the Battle for the Soul of the Party as former Presidents - Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma’s supporters vied for supremacy. The fallout from that battle we are living with today. And this December election, it is still that battle for the Soul of that party Our political team with a few guests had much fun putting together the series, it isn’t an academic discussion, it’s much more. It’s called “CHIEF” because it’s the most common term for leadership used in the ANC. The Economist once embarrassed itself in 2007, saying former president Mbeki insisted on being called as such, not knowing everyone is a chief in Luthuli House - rightly or wrongly. It’s the legacy of the battle of the two Chiefs - Mbekl and Zuma - that we are living today. [LISTEN: How South Africa, ANC changed in the years of Jacob Zuma]( Episode 2 | How South Africa, ANC Changed in the years of Jacob Zuma In the second of the Mail & Guardian’s six-part podcast series on the story of the ANC after the Polokwane conference of 2007, we focus on the changes that came after the election of Jacob Zuma. After he came into power, the functioning of state and the party would change quite significantly, but it was a slow start as he sought to assure markets that not too much would change to a South African story that was a darling amongst emerging market investors. In this podcast, Editor-in-Chief, Ron Derby, is joined once again by Paddy Harper who chat to Ronald Lamola, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services - who is gunning for a top six position in the party’s elective conference in December.
