In addition to The Hours, this month’s lineup features star-studded revivals of three Verdi masterpieces. [The Metropolitan Opera]( [High Notes - November]( Kevin Puts’s The Hours OPENS TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22 “New York City’s opera event of the fall.” —The New York Times A trio of superstars—sopranos Renée Fleming and Kelli O’Hara and mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato—join forces in the world-premiere production of Kevin Puts’s new opera, conducted by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. A powerful and moving new adaptation of Michael Cunningham’s acclaimed novel and the Oscar-winning film it inspired, The Hours tells the story of a day in the life of three women from different eras who grapple with shared struggles with sexuality, mortality, and regret. Phelim McDermott, who most recently wowed Met audiences with his mesmerizing vision of Philip Glass’s Akhnaten, directs the stunning new staging. Incandescent soprano Nadine Sierra makes a thrilling company role debut as Violetta in La Traviata, while baritone Quinn Kelsey and soprano Rosa Feola (pictured) deliver their celebrated portrayals of Rigoletto and Gilda in Rigoletto, alongside tenor Benjamin Bernheim in his Met debut as the Duke of Mantua. And Russell Thomas, one of today’s most in-demand tenors, stars in the title role of Don Carlo, headlining a sterling ensemble cast that also features sopranos Eleonora Buratto and Angela Meade alternating as Elisabeth of Valois, baritone Peter Mattei as Rodrigo, and bass Gunther Groissbock as Philip II.
