[The Metropolitan Opera]( [High Notes —FEBRUARY—] Handel’s Agrippina—Met Premiere Tonight Tonight, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato stars in the eagerly anticipated Metropolitan Opera premiere of Handel’s Agrippina, singing the title role of the Roman empress who'll stop at nothing to bring her son to power. Sir David McVicar’s irreverent production sets Handel’s wicked comedy of back-biting and power plays in the present time, with Harry Bicket conducting a dynamic ensemble cast. Mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey is Agrippina’s son, Nerone, soprano Brenda Rae, in her Met debut, is Poppea, countertenor Iestyn Davies sings Ottone, and bass Matthew Rose plays the weary emperor Claudius.
