Handelâs AgrippinaâMet Premiere Tonight
Tonight, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato stars in the eagerly anticipated Metropolitan Opera premiere of Handelâs Agrippina, singing the title role of the Roman empress who'll stop at nothing to bring her son to power. Sir David McVicarâs irreverent production sets Handelâs wicked comedy of back-biting and power plays in the present time, with Harry Bicket conducting a dynamic ensemble cast. Mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey is Agrippinaâs son, Nerone, soprano Brenda Rae, in her Met debut, is Poppea, countertenor Iestyn Davies sings Ottone, and bass Matthew Rose plays the weary emperor Claudius. Donât miss this exhilarating comic masterpieceâfeaturing some of Handelâs most sublime melodiesâin its exciting Met premiere.
