By becoming a [Charter Gold Member in Food Gardening Network]( you get full and FREE access to our Tomato Gardening Guide, plus an entire library of advice about food gardening and cooking that includes two magazines. But, I’m getting ahead of myself. First, let me tell you why and how our Tomato Gardening Guide was created, especially for gardeners like you and me. What this valuable guide can do for you. And how you can get full and FREE access to it today! You probably like tomatoes, as I do—and you really love these juicy garden-fresh orbs vs. the hard reddish-orange balls they sell in the grocery store claiming to be “tomatoes.” There’s just nothing like the taste, texture, and aroma of a real tomato, one freshly picked from the vine just outside your back door—ready to eat fresh and raw in a salad or on a sandwich … or to cook up in a sauce or stew. “Those grocery-store tomatoes are for the birds,” my father once quipped. Boy was my dad right—I only ever want to feed store-bought tomatoes to birds in the yard. Those “tomatoes” don’t belong in my kitchen or on anyone’s plate. Tomatoes have been a food passion of mine since I was a kid, growing up in Massachusetts and schooled on the right way to grow tomatoes by my dad who managed a large vegetable garden. I remember helping to plant and harvest the tomatoes—and even assisting Dad and Mom when it came time for canning them. We enjoyed those delicious tomatoes all year long! Fast forward to my adulthood, it had been quite a few years since I grew my own tomatoes—I was mostly buying good ones from farm stands, but that can get inconvenient and pretty expensive. Let alone the cost of buying decent tomatoes from gourmet chain stores! So a few years ago, I set out to plant my own tomatoes—with fond memories of my childhood experiences. I bought some tomato seedlings from a local garden center to get started, and then I dreamed of the harvest! Too bad for me, though. The effort was a COMPLETE FAILURE—I did everything I was supposed to do, I thought. But, the venture was a disaster—no edible tomatoes, my dashed hopes, and wasted time and money. The next year, I realized that I should find resources for guiding me about the right things to do when growing tomatoes—instead of trying to remember it all from my childhood. So, I went online and did lots of searches. Hours and hours of searching. I wanted to do it right this time! Before I realized it, I had spent more than 10 hours searching online about everything from types of tomato plants, soil conditions, watering, weeding, and controlling and preventing pests and diseases. I even spent time reading about the history of tomatoes and some very interesting facts (I love history!). And because I like to cook, I searched around for some recipes that use garden-fresh tomatoes—I have many of my own recipes, but I found a lot more that are just terrific, too. Then it struck me. An all-in-one online resource didn’t exist containing all this content about tomatoes. I think a seed company website had some advice about planting. I found information about soil and watering from a local extension service. And one university’s agricultural program had tons of information about avoiding tomato-plant pests and diseases. Bingo, I thought, here’s a chance to serve like-minded food gardeners by developing and sharing an all-in-one tomato resource and launching Food Gardening Network with tons of advice about all sorts of other plants, too. [tomatoes] We marshaled the right resources from our team of gardening experts to research and develop a prototype gardening guide about tomatoes—and because it covers everything about tomatoes, in one easy-to-use-and-access place, we called it The Everything Tomato Guide—All You Need to Know About Growing, Harvesting, Cooking, and Eating Delicious Tomatoes.
