From crafty gifts to a homemade drip irrigation system, your garden is the perfect place for your DIY skills. [Food Gardening Network Preview]( June 27, 2022  [18+ DIY Videos for You!]( From crafty gifts to a homemade drip irrigation system, your garden is the perfect place for your DIY skills. [Crafty Videos] Gain full access to this premium Video collection—and an entire Library of food gardening advice—with a [Charter Gold Membership in Food Gardening Network!]( Dear Gardener, The garden has often been a place to test our ability to improvise and create what we need out of the items we have on hand. Whether it’s propagating herbs, composting, or making our own bug spray, gardens tend to reciprocate ingenuity. They provide food, of course. But gardens also gift us with plenty of the ingredients we need to craft gifts for others – or for ourselves! For instance, did you know you can use beets, carrots, red cabbage, spinach, and coffee grounds to make natural dyes? Not bad, especially given how much controversy there is around synthetic dyes. That’s just some of what you’ll learn about in this collection of DIY videos. One of my favorites, though, is Crafty Gifts You Can Make From Your Garden. I love making fun little gifts for friends, and the crafts in this video really leverage the bounty of the garden. There are several projects in this video, but I think almost anyone can enjoy the Firestarters. They’re easy to make and they smell great. Every time I start a fire in my backyard, the air fills with the aroma of rosemary, pine, and thyme. I don’t want to give away the entire project here, but essentially you’re crafting a collection of aromatic plant materials and securing it with beeswax so when you start a fire you get a heady mix of delightful scents. You’ll also find a lovely garland in this video. Sprigs of rosemary, thyme, sage, and oregano, along with any colorful leaves you want, get flash-dipped in beeswax and dried, resulting in a gorgeous garland to adorn a window frame. My favorite thing about these projects is that there is so much room for customization. You can make them monochromatic, attach the garland to a tree branch, use more or less of an herb, or add leaves from your favorite tree. Best of all, Food Gardening Network’s Senior Editor and Producer Amanda MacArthur is quite the teacher. She walks viewers through each project and offers ideas and suggestions for how to make these DIY projects as easy as possible.
