Gain full access to this premium collectionâand an entire Library of food gardening adviceâwith a [Charter Gold Membership in Food Gardening Network!]( Dear Gardener, Oh, the sweet strawberry! Itâs easy to understand why itâs the most beloved of the berries, with its rich, deep flavors and eye-catching color. But did you know that strawberries can also improve heart health, and they may be useful in preventing Type 2 diabetes? Theyâre also good for your skin, helpful in preventing and reducing acne, and they can help reduce under-eye puffiness. We could talk all day about the amazing benefits of strawberries, and in fact, the Strawberry Collection includes a section on the Health Benefits and Home Remedies of Strawberries. Of course, those arenât anything to dismiss, but we also canât ignore the obvious reason weâre all here: Strawberries are absolutely, amazingly delicious! Thereâs just not anything that compares with sun-ripe strawberries right out of the garden. Theyâre also fantastic in recipes, like the classic Buttermilk Strawberry Shortcake recipe, a simple Strawberry Limeade (you will want this on a hot summer day, trust me!), or luxurious Chocolate-Covered Strawberries. Honestly, thatâs reason enough to grow strawberries in the garden. Which ones? Earliglow strawberries are good for beginners and they produce an early harvest of medium-sized strawberries. Or you can grow the Delizz, which is great for container gardens and itâs the first strawberry selected as an All-America Selections winner. In all, you can check out six of the most popular varieties of strawberries in the Plant Profiles section, where you can discover the characteristics of each varietal and where they grow best. You can read in detail about these varieties and get all six delicious recipes in the Strawberry Collection. Plus you go in depth about Growing Strawberries from Seeds or Seedlings, Nurturing Your Strawberry Plants, Dealing with Strawberry Diseases, and everything else you might need to know to enjoy a bountiful harvest of sweet strawberries. How To Get Super Swell Strawberries Strawberries are among those happy plants that will grow just about anywhere. Containers, hanging baskets, raised beds, along your driveway⦠wherever you want strawberries, thereâs a good chance theyâll grow just fine. That said, if you want a decent harvest, youâll need to plan for several plants. Fortunately, you can pack quite a few plants into a small space if you have good soil and a spot thatâs safe from deer and rabbits. Hanging containers are especially nice, since they allow for plenty of drainage, not to mention they look really nice. Raised beds are good for much the same reason, although they are a bit easier for local wildlife to get to. Just be aware that whatever you decide on, strawberries do need full sunlight to thrive. There are a few other considerations, as well, that can help lower the chance of disease or insect infestations. Again, strawberries are easy to grow, but to get the most enjoyment out of them, they are a few things you can do to help them along. Check out Where to Grow Strawberries and Planting Strawberries in the Ground for the juicy details. And be sure to find out where you donât want to grow them; there are a few favorite garden veggies that will make your strawberries very unhappy if theyâre close by. Itâs all in the Strawberry Collection, which you can open up right now when you activate your membership in [The Food Gardening Network](.
