BACKGROUND: Hot flashes are a common side effect of endocrine therapy (ET) that contribute to poor quality of life and decreased treatment adherence. ͏    ͏    ͏    ͏    ͏    ͏    ͏    ͏    [SYNOPSI logo] [Dr image] Rosana Gnanajothy, MD Breast Medical Oncologist Hematology Oncology Physician Monday, August 26, 2024 “In noteworthy new breast cancer supportive-care research, acupuncture helped reduce hot flashes as well as endocrine therapy-related symptoms in patients with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer; and a 6-week survivorship education program benefited breast cancer patients with higher psychological distress. In addition, younger breast cancer patients in a study “universally” benefited from a 6-week mindfulness intervention. For Black women with early-stage breast cancer, docetaxel given every 3 weeks caused less taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy than once-weekly paclitaxel; and participation in a dedicated program led to earlier diagnosis in high-risk women. Also, clinical breast exam was generally ineffective for cancer detection in high-risk patients.
