One of the most underrated aspects of becoming a great professional is actually having interests out

One of the most underrated aspects of becoming a great professional is actually having interests outside of work. Whether it be practicing stand-up comedy or learning salsa or building furniture, having interests outside of work can improve your performance on the job.  A really cool example is storytelling: most people think of stories and fiction as completely separate from their work. But in reality, learning to tell stories will make you better at your job: you’ll sell better, write better and be more empathetic to your user.  It’s even better when a skill like storytelling can be combined with a “hard” skill that everyone should be learning right now: working with AI. I truly never expected this combination, but on Maven there’s an awesome course from Jim Hull called “AI-Powered Storytelling.”  Jim Hull was a Disney and Dreamworks animator and director for 20 years. Then he pivoted his career and became a full stack app developer and has launched his own app, Subtxt! So he gets both tech employees and storytellers and this course speaks to both groups.  This is a great example of a course where you will learn a ton of skills that are adjacent to your job and will help you get better without feeling like “work.” You’ll learn how to use AI in a specific context, which will get you much more comfortable with using AI throughout your day-to-day work.  It will also make you a better writer, since structured storytelling is a natural skill that most great copywriters and fictional authors have. [Apply today]( Get $200 off with MAVEN200 Jim's long career includes working on film such as Pocahontas, Tarzan, Shrek 2, and How to Train Your Dragon. Most recently, he was the story consultant on Canada's selection for this year's Oscars (Best International Film 2023). In the AI-Powered Storytelling cohort, he helps you learn about all the elements that go into writing a complete story and to interact with someone who has decades of experience in the film and television industry.  You’ll learn how to use AI tools to enhance your storytelling skills, and collaborate with peers to receive feedback on your work. The goal is to help you both learn more about AI and also about developing as a writer.  And of course - the course has had rave reviews:  “This is such a powerful tool...the best is that it demands you put in deep thought. No surface-level 12 steps for Heroes here. I'm blown away...blown. away. I also don't think I actually exist anymore. This is all The Matrix.”  - John Dusenberry, Head of Story (Warner Bros. Animation)  “Jim Hull is the only story consultant I’ve ever met who goes beyond dumbing down an idea into a set of steps but instead guides you to flesh out your ideas, showing you where to find the depth and complexity in your story that will make it both satisfying and meaningful to the reader.” - Sebastien de Castell, Bestselling author of twelve novels [Count me in]( Get $200 off with MAVEN200 Gagan CEO, Maven   Over 15,000 professionals have leveled up with Maven Maven Learning, Inc., 10900 Research Blvd 160C, PM3086, Austin, Texas 78759, USA [Unsubscribe]()Â

The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
