Plus Hello Kitty and the House on the Rock [View this email in your browser]( Hello! Hey, it's Thursday, the weekend is a couple of days off, and we're thinking about road-trip destinations. Those of you who've read American Gods will have heard of the House on the Rock, but if you haven't, [you really need to]( this](. A little further afield, there are [awesome buildings in Valencia]( and spectacular [RVing opportunities in France](. But craziest of all might be the [Hello Kitty Father's Day flight](. Of course, unless you happen to be in one of these places, getting to any of the above might be a logistical problem. A deeper issue exists, as well: the dilemma of traveling during a pandemic. [Here are our thoughts on that](. But first... TRAVEL [12 cities that will have you Eurotripping across the United States]( Nothing is more envy-inducing than listening to a friend rattle off the list of cities they visited on a whirlwind Eurotrip, especially when your own chances of touring the continent are slim. Sure, you could go to Vegas for the gladiator getups and replica Eiffel Tower, but sauntering up and down the Strip will never feel like the real deal. Planning a trip to Athens, Florence, and Vienna might, though, even if you’re not in Europe at all. All across the United States are namesake cities that deserve to be destinations in their own right. So put your passport away, gas up for a road trip, and reimagine the classic European itinerary right here in your own backyard. Eurail pass not required. [EURORTRIPPIN' IN THE USA]( THE LATEST --------------------------------------------------------------- NEWS [This airline is offering a Hello Kitty flight to nowhere for Father’s Day]( --------------------------------------------------------------- CULTURE [Wisconsin’s House on the Rock isn’t a kitschy roadside attraction — it’s a walk through a dream]( --------------------------------------------------------------- ROAD TRIPS [RVing through France is the perfect way to do it all — at your own pace]( --------------------------------------------------------------- ART + ARCHITECTURE [Valencia has some of the richest architecture in Spain, here’s how to see it]( --------------------------------------------------------------- NEWS [Electric tuk tuks could be key to COVID-19-era transportation]( --------------------------------------------------------------- TRAVEL [Traveling during a pandemic is a heart-wrenching dilemma]( TRIP PLANNING [The ultimate guide to the best hikes in Acadia National Park]( Acadia National Park isn’t known for remote, long-distance hiking and backpacking trails. But what it lacks in remote wilderness, it makes up for in spectacular views of rocky coastlines and dramatic summits that appear to protrude directly from the depths of the Atlantic. Some of us should opt for a leisurely stroll around Jordan Pond followed by an afternoon cup of tea and popovers at the Jordan Pond House; others could sooner see themselves scaling the cliffside Precipice or Beehive trails, mastering hand-over-hand climbing up metal rungs, each securely fastened into the rock’s face. Regardless of your hiking skill or fitness level, the park’s 120 miles of trails offer something for everyone. [DISCOVER ACADIA NATIONAL PARK]( BLACK TRAVEL [Is BELGRADE the FRIENDLIEST CITY in EUROPE?]( Ah yes, Belgrade, capital of Serbia, where the Sava and Danube rivers come together, site of countless battles throughout history, going back to the Celts who apparently liked to fight their enemies naked — and even as recently as the Kosovo War in 1999. And yet despite all this, the people here are amazingly friendly. As our guide Nicolas pointed out, even with the wars, “we never stopped being friends (with each other).” We, based out of Arkabarka Floating Hostel, gave out plenty of free hugs, ate fish goulash, and found a basketball court (bball is big here in Serbia) so I could hit my shot of the day. If you find yourself here in Serbia, be sure to spend time getting to know the people. Хвала вам Belgrade!
