He brought up that dreaded “I” word again... To view this email as a web page, go [here.]( Hey there! What a wild few days we’ve had. It looked like we were going to have some recovery yesterday, but then Jerome Powell spoke to Congress about inflation and, well… It's pretty easy to spot on the chart exactly when that happened. If you missed it, [this article]( has a clip and the notes of the meeting. There’s one big takeaway worth drilling in on here. Top Trade Ideas… Texted Straight to Your Phone? Powell explained why they kept saying the inflation was transitory. According to him, there were two competing factors at play: On the one hand, the economic outlook is strong. But there’s no denying labor and job issues, plus the challenges of COVID and supply chain issues. So they claim they simplified this by calling inflation “transitory.” Umm… For anyone hoping that this meeting would clear things up, it probably just created more indecision. Things could’ve gotten a lot worse, but I think fairly strong Black Friday and Cyber Monday numbers gave investors a little more confidence. You always want to keep an eye on when the Fed meets because anytime the “I” word is brought up, the market seems to take a hit. This week could be a bumpy ride, but I think by next week we should at least have a better idea on the direction of things.
