Trading on Black Friday

Today is the busiest travel day of the year, so if that includes you be safe out there! [Click here to get all the details and place your order]( Because it’s the busiest travel day of the year, the markets typically have a lot less volume today. If you don’t know, the market is only open until 1 pm EST. Usually, if there is volume, it’s for a short time in the morning. So I wouldn’t recommend getting into long-term positions on a day like today. You can see the returns on stocks bought today aren’t great, but the downside isn’t as bad either. If you are looking for a trade to take today, you’ll want to look where the volatility could be. JOBS will be a stock I’m watching today. Look at this WILD chart. A huge gap up that only held for a few days before a bigger gap down. Normally you see moves like this at earnings, but all this happened leading up to earnings. The day before Thanksgiving it carried strong bullish momentum into the close. Leading right up to their earnings announcement. JOBS usually doesn’t have a ton of volume, so a big volume day could make it really move. AVXL had earnings after the close on Wednesday. It barely missed its target but had double the average volume leading up to the close. You can see it’s running up in the after-hours, so I’ll be keeping an eye on it as well. The most important thing to remember if you’re going to day trade on Black Friday (as well as any day): stick to your plan! Don’t convince yourself that short-term trades gone wrong could turn into successful long-term trades. That’s a fatal trading error. Have a nice holiday weekend!
