We’re here for you - no matter what Hey there! Markay here. I’m writing this email on Tuesday night - I have no idea what tomorrow will bring yet, so I’m currently watching the results as I type. As you know, I normally like to give you sage advice based on what I know to be true. And at this point, none of us know who will win, so rather than talking about vague guesses and predictions, I’ll talk about what I do know instead. A few years back, I was having dinner with my parents on election night. We just started on our plates of pasta when the results started rolling in. I had stressed all day over who would take the presidency, and as we started hearing from each state, I only grew more nervous. The candidate I had voted for was in trouble. I put my fork down and started biting my nails. The tension was really starting to get to me. By contrast, my father, who is usually very concerned about politics, looked utterly calm. I didn’t understand. I knew we’d both voted for the same candidate, and he felt so strongly that the other guy was a terrible pick. Why wasn’t he as upset as I was? State after state reported, and it was pretty evident that the other guy had won. As I dealt with this internally, I realized that in addition to the disappointment I felt in general, I also felt bad for my dad. Here was a man who’d worked diligently all his life, who’d taught his children well, and who always endeavored to make the right choices even if they involved more hardship for him… And the new president-to-be was going to bring in a bunch of policies that would turn all of that on its head. I didn’t want to point that out and upset him, but I couldn’t help myself any longer. I said, "Dad, why aren’t you worried about this? You know this presidency will change everything - and not for the better - right?" He sat back and looked at me, staying quiet for a moment in the way that fathers do. And then he said, "You know what, honey? You’re right, our guy didn’t win. We didn’t get the outcome we wanted. But tomorrow, the sun will come up, it’ll be another day and another chance to do what needs to be done. We still have opportunities. We can still make money. We can still take care of our families. It doesn’t matter who the president is - they can’t take that away from us." And he was completely correct. We did wake up the next day. We did take care of our families. And, in spite of all the policies the new president brought with him, we did go on to prosper. The same thing will happen this year. No matter who wins, we’ll all wake up on Wednesday with the same inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That means whether your guy did or didn’t win, you can still prosper and be free and happy. It’s your right as an American to do so. YES, this election was momentous. YES, this election was historic. BUT there are lots of other things going on in the world, and this one thing will not totally make or break your life. That’s entirely up to you. And that’s truly what makes America great - your success or your failure is up to you. It’s only limited by the limits you place on yourself. So you can take whatever today brings and curl up into a ball. Or you can run with it and decide to prosper anyway. Personally, I know which one I pick. If you’d like to prosper with me, I invite you to come watch my live event. Here's the link where you can join us at 11:00 AM ET. [( Rob Booker and I will tell you what we think of the election outcomes and what we predict are the best moves to make next. Until then... The sun came up. Today is another day. You have another chance to do what you know is right. So take it. I’ll be there to help. See you there. Chat soon!
