Mari has the scoop for you... Greetings {NAME}, Meta just launched it's 'Twitter killer,' as some me

Mari has the scoop for you... Greetings {NAME}, Meta just launched it's 'Twitter killer,' as some media outlets are calling it. Lol. We'll see. Zuck posted on his new Threads profile that the app has had 5 million sign ups in the first four hours... I imagine that'll quickly grow to 100 million before too long. Threads, an Instagram app From Instagram's [announcement](=): - Threads is a new app, built by the Instagram team, for sharing text updates and joining public conversations. - You log in using your Instagram account and posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length. - We’re working on Threads soon being compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that we believe can shape the future of the internet. If you're interested in checking it out and signing up for an account, just go to [threads.net]( and download the shiny new Threads app. It's available on both Apple's App Store and the Google Play store. [IG Threads](=) You'll log into Threads using your Instagram credentials so your username will be the same as on IG. Unless you wanted to create a new profile. You can import your bio and follow all the same people as you do on IG. Or, you could use this as an opportunity to curate a whole new bunch of folks to follow. The Washington Post [states](), "Mark Zuckerberg has taken the wraps off Threads, a clone of Twitter designed to lure people turned off by the social network’s changes under owner Elon Musk... Threads may be the first Twitter alternative that really matters because it’s built on top of Instagram’s existing base of billions of users. The billionaire social media smackdown is about to get real." If you try the Threads app out, come let us know your ID/URL on [this Facebook post](=)! And, you can connect with me there at [threads.net/@mari_smith]() (there is already a desktop version, but only for viewing. You can't post or reply/interact... yet! I'm sure it won't take Zuckerberg and team long). One more thing, my friend - I am not recommending nor endorsing Threads. It's entirely up to you if you feel like joining and you have the bandwidth and interest. I'm seeing a few comments on my Facebook post pointing out that Threads is a 'privacy nightmare.' Sigh. Yeah, well we can say that about any Meta-owned app, unfortunately. If you look at the app's 'Data Linked to You' section, Threads is pretty much the same laundry list as Facebook and Instagram. I'll have more social media news, tips, and updates for you real soon in my next message. Meanwhile, I do hope you're enjoying your summer (for all us folks in the Northern hemisphere!). Do you plan to take a proper summer vacation? I'd love to know - feel free to reply to this email. I'm rather toasty here in Ashland, Oregon - my new environment. But still loving it so very much!! That's been a whole month now since I moved from San Diego. I'm enjoying the slower pace and settling in, and feel like I'm on somewhat of a staycation. I am planning a fun short trip to the Kootenays, BC in August to visit my mum. And one of my sisters and her husband are coming from Scotland for a visit in a couple weeks. You're welcome to reach out anytime. Be sure to come connect with your fellow marketers in my active and super supportive [Social Scoop Facebook Community]() - celebrating 23k+ amazing members. Cheers 'til the next time, Best, Mari Smith CEO, Mari Smith International, Inc. Premier Facebook Marketing Expert Top Social Media Thought Leader Author, The New Relationship Marketing Coauthor, Facebook Marketing: An Hour A Day P.P.S. It's another early start for me! This time I'm super pumped to be doing a professional film shoot. I'm delighted to team up with the good folks at Sprinklr to contribute to their 'Socialverse 2023' — they're sending a pro film crew out to meet me at a beautiful venue in Ashland, Oregon! Oh my! This exciting project is a new documentary-style masterclass in all-things social media, along with my good friends in the industry, Ann Handley, Jay Baer and others. I'll be talking about social saturation, the creator economy (why it's only for a teeny tiny percent of social media users), AI powered algorithms, and more! Here's a fun sneak peek Sprinklr released recently! Watch on [LinkedIn]( or [Facebook](). If you have any questions or feedback, you can reply directly to this email.
