Mari has the scoop for you... Greetings {NAME}, If you've noticed that your Facebook feed is filled

Mari has the scoop for you... Greetings {NAME}, If you've noticed that your Facebook feed is filled with content from people and pages you’ve never heard of lately, that is Meta’s AI-powered ‘discovery engine’ at work!! More than 20% of Facebook and Instagram feed content is from people you don’t follow. And, Meta states, "Across all of Instagram, that's about 40% of the content that you see. Since we launched Reels, AI recommendations have driven a more than 24% increase in time spent on Instagram." [Source: Mark Zuckerberg's opening remarks on Meta's Q1 2023 earnings call, 4.26.23] [Facebook: The Era of Social Discovery]( [FB discovery engine]( The recommendation or discovery engine approach is what made TikTok so successful with its ‘FYP: For You Page.’ TikTok developed sophisticated algorithms that know you better than your mom, your partner, your best friend, and your dog put together. (LOL!) So these algos select recommended and suggested content to shove in your feed to keep you guessing, keep you entertained, and keep you coming back for more. Meanwhile, you may have noticed that you’re seeing less and less posts from actual Facebook friends and pages you follow. Instagram works the exact same way now, too. It’s Meta’s attempt to a) blatantly copy TikTok (again), and b) lure the younger demographic to Facebook and Instagram. Tune into my thoughts and breakdown of what's happening on my recent Facebook Live [here](=). You're Invited! And/or, have you joined any channels? You can follow @Zuck's Meta Channel and @Mosseri's IG Updates Channel by going to their IG accounts on mobile, and tapping the channel link in their bio. (Broadcast Channels are not yet fully rolled out to all countries for creating or subscribing). The feature is also coming to Facebook and Messenger in the coming months. (I might partake when that happens. No matter what, we have to think through how best to use such tools and integrate in our marketing mix. And, I do wonder if this feature will stick around with a decent shelf life... hmm! Lol.) Just recently, Meta announced that COLLABORATORS in Instagram Broadcast Channels is now rolling out. You can invite other creators or fans to collab on messages in your channel. Hm. Mark Zuckerberg and Adam Mosseri debuted the new collaborative feature on Zuck's IG Broadcast Channel. If you didn't see it, [here's a little sneak peek with Mari's take](, specifically on Zuckerberg's comments about just how well the Reels algorithm knows him and his wife, Priscilla. (Just have to insert a bunch of eye roll emojis haha! ). [IG broadcast channels](=) NEW: Instagram is working on a 'top secret text app' ALSO, in the IG broadcast channel chit-chat, Zuckerberg point blank asked Mosseri if he had any "top secret new text apps" to talk about today. Mosseri declined. This is in reference to the Twitter competitor that Instagram is building, codenamed 'Barcelona.' More info on that [here](=) (Twitter thread). That's all for this issue! Premier Facebook Marketing Expert Top Social Media Thought Leader Author, The New Relationship Marketing Coauthor, Facebook Marketing: An Hour A Day P.S. On a personal note, I mentioned a few weeks ago that I'd enjoyed a most glorious trip to Ashland, Oregon. Well, I can now reveal that I was up there working with a real estate agent looking to buy a home so long as I found the right one. Sure enough, I did!! I bought a lovely house on 2 acres with a mature garden, well water, solar power, glorious sweeping views overlooking a nearby lake, a lovely guest house, and it's just 15 minutes outside of Ashland proper. Ahhh, so peaceful! It's very reminiscent of my childhood in the boonies of BC, Canada. I could even feel my dad's presence. Everything is happening incredibly fast. Christopher and I will be moving up on June 4th. Phew. So much stuff to sort out - haha! It's been 14 years since I last moved house. I'm just a tiny wee bit sad to leave sunny San Diego after 24 fabulous years here ... But I'm also SUPER excited for a whole NEW start and to get SO much more property for the money in Oregon!! (And, who knows, we might end up being 'snow birds' at some point, haha!) I'm so grateful for the many hundreds of wonderfully positive comments on [my post about the news]()!! Your positive encouragement makes my heart sing!! P.P.S. This will be the view from my new home office!! It's Emigrant Lake.
