[image] Tbh, I kept seeing diminishing returns myself from my Twitter efforts. I've been on the platform since 2007 and it just "ain't what it used to be!" So, at the end of last year, I chose to stop publishing regular content on Twitter (as well as LinkedIn). I do still post some pertinent updates from time to time on both platforms. Now that Elon Musk has finally completed the purchase of Twitter and is making sweeping changes, we shall see if this platform will be anything more appealing in the future. Hmm, #TimeWillTell. To get a sense of the bigger picture going on, I found this to be a [most fascinating assessment]() of Elon Musk's actual vision for Twitter, put together by my very smart, long-time friend Roger James Hamilton. The FCC commissioner says the U.S. should ban TikTok. Shares of U.S. social media companies Snap and Meta spiked on the news that a Federal Communications Commissioner said the [U.S. government should ban TikTok](=). Of course, the FCC's comments do not necessarily signal any pending actions against TikTok. But it's sure interesting to see this topic hitting the mainstream headlines... again! So, now I'm curious about your use of TikTok - are you super active on this platform? Do you see actual business results? Or, are you more of an observer who enjoys being entertained on the platform? [For me, as I've mentioned in previous newsletters and social posts, I am not on TikTok at all - I deleted my tiny account several years back for personal reasons. But, I get that it's a powerful platform for a LOT of people!] More News You Can Use The metaverse canât succeed if no one wants to be there, which Meta and other big metaverses seemingly don't yet understand. Read this excellent assessment by super-smart Ben Thompson @ Stratechery: [Meta Myths](). Quick excerpt: "To insist that Facebook will die any day now is in some respects to suggest that humanity will cease to exist any day now; granted, it is a company and companies fail, but even if Facebook failed it would only be a matter of time before another Facebook rose to replace it. That seems unlikely: for all of the companyâs travails and controversies over the past few years, its moats are deeper than ever, its money-making potential not only huge but growing both internally and secularly..." Indeed. That's heartening to read. Even so, I'm recommending to all my clients that it's critical to start building your social media marketing contingency plan now.
