Instagram finally 'woke up and smelled the coffee.' Ha! ☕ After years of recommending, rewarding, and even prioritizing 'aggregator' accounts, Instagram's AI has finally been put to good use. You've probably seen those accounts, right? They amass millions of followers and if you tap through to see their content, it's *all* what I call 'OPC' - other people's content. And, invariably, there is no attribution or tag. This is such a pet peeve of mine, TBH!! 😠BUT, now Instagram's AI can identify the ORIGINAL creator and surface/recommend that OG content. About time, too. In order to reward original content, Instagram has introduced these four changes: - A new input to ranking that will give smaller creators more distribution. [Awesome!] - Replacing reposts with original content in recommendations. [Yay!] - Adding labels to reposted content, linking to the original creator. [Good thing!] - Removing content aggregators from recommendations. [Thank you!] From IG's blog: [Helping Creators Find New Audiences](. Anyway, some folks recognize there are pros and cons... potentially. Certainly some aggregator account owners may be upset. And I'm seeing some creators are pushing back a bit, too. Because they can, at times, gain tremendous additional exposure by having their content featured on these large aggregator accounts. Still, Instagram wants people to CHANGE up the content so it's not identical. There are different features inside the app that allow anyone to do this. UNLESS you've [specified]( that you don't want your content reused. (Even so, I believe there are all kinds of content scraper tools, ugh. But at least IG's new changes are in place now!)
