[Support Marc →]( Hi {NAME}, In 2019, following the horrific mass shooting in El Paso where twenty-three Texans died, Texas Democrats strongly urged Governor Abbott to call an emergency special session to address the violent criminals legally buying guns in our state. He refused, and Texas Republicans doubled down on their obsession with allowing bad guys access to weapons and leaving huge loopholes in our state’s gun safety laws. Then a month ago, just days after purchasing an AR rifle on his 18th birthday, a gunman snuck through an unsecured door in Uvalde, Texas, and turned Robb Elementary School into a battlefield. This time, nineteen children and two teachers died. Later the same week, Texas Republicans hosted the National Rifle Association convention in Houston and callously mocked Texans' immediate pleas for action. Again, Governor Abbott denied Democrats' calls for a special session on gun violence prevention, but responded with an obligatory special committee that isn't even empowered to move on the public's testimony. One thing is extremely clear — to Greg Abbott and the Texas GOP — the political cost of doing what is right is far too high a price to pay to special interests. The Republican's obsession has reached a dangerous fever pitch as gun violence ravages our nation. We know we can't rely on the Governor or the Texas GOP to act to save lives. That means we need all hands on deck — from federal to state to the county level – working together to make sure classrooms do not become warzones ever again. [Greg Abbott has the power to call a special session on gun violence prevention – but he hasn't. I am proud that President Biden signed the Safer Communities Act into law because it will save lives. I continue to urge Governor Abbott to follow our lead, stand up to the NRA, and call a special legislative session to prevent more blood from being senselessly spilled. No campaign check is ever worth the price of a life. Dedicated to your safety, Marc Veasey Texas's 33rd Congressional District Growing up in Fort Worth’s historic Como neighborhood, I used to dream about opportunities that would allow me a chance to experience things that filled my imagination; about American heroes and fascinating places in our country. I dreamed that I could one day make a difference in the lives of my friends and neighbors. It was that simple goal that eventually led me to Washington and the halls of Congress. For nearly a decade, I have been humbled by the ongoing support and encouragement of the community that raised me. Today, I’m asking for it again. [Donate Today →]( Pol. Adv.
