# A bird's eye view of Cali Terrain. [Add Cali Terrain to my account]( This [Cali Terrain]( map is inspired by a recent trip from DC to LA. I’ve flown many times from the East Coast to Pacific Northwest, but this was my first trip to Southern California. En route to LA, we passed the Grand Canyon, Navajo Nation Reservations over Northwest New Mexico and Northern Arizona, and entered LA, journeying across the thinly populated deserts and mountains in San Bernardino County. As I created this style, I wanted it to reflect the desert and mountainscapes I saw. [Explore Cali Terrain]( Behind the design The hillshade styling is where the magic is for this style, using the terrain-rgb DEM tileset. If you want to customize it, changing the hue for the hillshades layers can make a huge difference in the temperature of the map as shown below. You may want to alter the opacity for those layers as well depending on the brightness in the hue you select. Finally, don't forget to make sure the label colors and point of interest icons work well with your new hillshade color composition. This design is perfect for any outdoor type project or application. The roads simply styled including path styling. Mountain peaks and glaciers are labeled as well as islands, archipelagos, and islets, and contour lines are shown in meters.
