Experience the glitz and glam of Metropolis. [Add Metropolis to my account]( This [Metropolis]( design is inspired by the Art Deco style that flourished at the beginning of the twentieth century. Originating in Paris around the time of the first world war, it quickly spread across the globe and influenced the design of everything from buildings to jewelry to automobiles. Some of the worlds most iconic structures such as the Chrysler Building or Rockefeller Center are reminders of this unique period. [Explore Metropolis]( Behind the design Art Deco evolved over the course of three decades and came to be defined by the use of rich materials, expert craftsmanship, and geometric patterns. In it’s later years, brighter colors were replaced with black and metallic surfaces mixed with lighter hues. I thought this color scheme would make an interesting map, so I designed streets and POIs in light grey and underlying land masses or water bodies a darker black. Major highways are highlighted in a brass tone for added flourish. There were two Art Deco inspired fonts used on this map. Typefaces developed during this period were bold, futuristic, and often written in all caps. [Build with Metropolis]( The map uses a cubist-inspired city icon for the world’s larger cities. The inspiration for the icon was derived from posters for the iconic 1927 sci-fi film named “Metropolis,” which inspired the name of this map!
