But first, we wanted to make sure you saw this Letter to the Editor published last week by Syracuse.com | The Post Standard. [The Post-Standard | syracuse.com] Mannion, a true servant leader, belongs in Congress To the Editor: There is a bonafide, everyday, tireless warrior and champion in our midst who is actually poised, equipped and committed to representing not only his community, but every individual in our society, especially the most vulnerable! Gandhi reminded the world that âThe true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.â In 2022, the Syracuse Post-Standard editorial board endorsed John Mannion of the 50th Senate District, based partially on the meaningful work he achieved as chair of the newly created Committee on Disabilities. Most notably, he was lauded for sponsoring âlegislation to strengthen disability rights, support special education, improve job prospects, increase individual autonomy and remove pejorative language from state laws.â Now, in 2024, he is designated as the candidate for the 22nd Congressional District by the Onondaga County Democratic Committee. Please remember that Mannion did not begin with a trajectory towards government and politics. He began as a teacher, serving his community. He rose to levels of distinguished service in every area of education, noting his expertise, devotion, and commitment from students, teachers, parents, and administrators. His passion and successes in helping his community learn and grow were/are the seeds to his amazing service and success now. As a former educator at the private and public level for over 34 years, I can attest that Mannion is the servant leader we all need, as he is truly only focused on seeing our communities and the democratic nation as whole succeed. As a parent of two special-needs children and an active member of numerous 501(c) charities devoted to serving our most vulnerable populations, I feel immense gratitude and relief that someone like John Mannion is fully devoted to serving his community, from the most vulnerable and the most hard-working in Central New York to also those who are more well- equipped and financially prosperous. As a friend to his family and children, I can attest that this is a man whose family loves, lives, and thrives with the ethos, pathos and logos he has instilled in each of them, who then, in turn, give back to their communities to the fullest. In the midst of all the negative turbulence this year, I feel gratitude and relief that John Mannion is fighting for all of us! I hope more individuals take the time to truly listen to him and support him. Jennifer Kirchoff
