Age spots are made up of a substance called lipofuscin. But lipofuscin age spots don’t just occur on the skin – and the issue is not simply cosmetic. Lipofuscin is a great sign of accelerated aging – and it’s something that should be dealt with. For example, researchers have shown that lipofuscin accumulates in the heart. It causes damage to the working of the heart cells and muscles. These changes are seen as aging and disease. But in reality, we can prevent the buildup of lipofuscin by avoiding the things which cause its growth in the first place – primarily unstable fats. [Can't see this image? Click on 'load images' or 'always allow images for this sender'] This biochemical research was carried out at Loma Linda University in California. The paper was published in the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Liver spots or age spots – the outward signs of lipofuscin accumulation – have been known for millennia. More recently, researchers and doctors have become more interested about the accumulation of lipofuscin inside the body. About 50 years ago, some pathologists became quite concerned about the buildup of lipofuscin in the heart muscle of people who died with heart complications. “Examination of human heart muscle from autopsies and biopsy specimens have revealed evidence that mitochondria can be transformed into lipofuscin.” Mitochondria are the energy generating organelles inside the body. Your energy depends on mitochondria. Heart failure and many other chronic health conditions are simply different expressions of low energy. So the observation that mitochondria are turning into lipofuscin in the heart muscle is both alarming and promising. Promising because if we can figure out this problem we can probably solve many cardiovascular problems. The question then is what causes the creation of lipofuscin. There are a number of factors – but the main one is the breakdown of unsaturated fats. “Lipofuscin has been shown to arise from the peroxidase of destruction of polyunsaturated lipid membranes.” Simply put, unstable fats inside the body get broken down into other substances which trigger the production of lipofuscin. The main sources of these unstable, toxic fats are vegetable oil and fish oils. Vegetable oils and fish oils trigger the production of lipofuscin – which ends up as a graveyard for mitochondria – the engines of the body. Time and again, researchers have noted the buildup of yellow lipofuscin pigment inside the hearts of people with heart energy issues. Lipofuscin used to be something which was simply associated with age – something you couldn’t do anything about and which was best to ignore. Yet, the hearts of young people with heart troubles are often riddled with lipofuscin. “A higher rate of lipofuscin formation is indicated by the occurrence of atrophy in the heart of relatively young persons who died was conditions that were associated with inanition.” Inanition means lack of nourishment, vigor or enthusiasm. It’s a good way to describe the problems caused by unstable fats and lipofuscin. Without mitochondria there is no energy to nourish the cells, vigor and enthusiasm depend on energy. Vegetable oil and fish oil actually turn mitochondria into age pigment… …depriving the body of the energy production units it needs to feel the heart and the rest of the body. Lipofuscin is an energetic graveyard. As a secondary effect, this age pigment can infiltrate organs – interfering structurally with their workings. The authors of this study believe these two effects play a major role in heart failure. “Breakdown of unstable fats can reduce the capacity for protein synthesis and limit mitochondrial replacement. Such limitations would contribute to heart failure during stress.” Lipofuscin is a serious matter – and one which should be on the mind of everyone, young or old. Limiting your consumption of unstable fats like vegetable oil and fish oil is probably the most important step. Because by cutting unstable fats you can limit lipofuscin, accelerated aging, and diseases of low-energy. ----Important Message---- Food shopping? Here’s the killer lipid lurking in many foods...and what to buy instead… [Can't see this image? Click on 'load images' or 'always allow images for this sender'] Nearly 100 years ago, manufacturing companies started contaminating food with a toxic killer chemical… And now today, it’s in almost every single food item we eat. It’s in fast food, organic food, so-called “healthy” foods -- every single food at the grocery store is full of this toxic chemical. And this Killer Lipid is doing terrible things to men’s bodies… Fortunately I found out [a simple way to identify foods containing this poison…]( and I am giving you foods to buy instead... ---------- Daily Medical Discoveries is dedicated to uncovering secret, buried or censored studies that can help men live great lives to 120 and beyond. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
