Toxins and other waste products are transmitted out of the body by this drainage mechanism. The brain and nervous system donât have lymphatic systems. But only a few years ago it was discovered that there is a lymphatic system AROUND the brain. This lymphatic system removes products which are harmful to the brain. A new study has shown that problems in this system cause memory problems and accelerate Alzheimerâs. Researchers also found a way to increase the function of the lymphatic system around the brain. This led to better mental performance and a decrease in Alzheimerâs plaques. [Can't see this image? The results were published in the journal Nature. The meninges are membranes that surround the brain and nervous system. It was recently discovered that these meningeal membranes provide lymphatic drainage to the brain. â(Re)discovery and characterization of meningeal lymphatic vessels has prompted an assessment of their role in waste clearance.â The study traced the flow of small molecules from the brain and spinal-cord to the lymph nodes. This provided the best evidence yet that the brain is detoxified via the lymphatic system. âHere we show that meningeal lymphatic vessels drain macromolecules from the cerebrospinal fluids into the cervical lymph nodes in mice.â Restriction of lymphatic vessels prevents the flow of waste material from the brain. This led to cognitive impairment in the mice. âImpairment of meningeal lymphatic function slows removal of macromolecules and induces cognitive impairment in mice.â Brain function is impaired when lymphatic drainage is slowed. The researchers then used a compound called vascular endothelial growth factor C. This compound increases lymphatic drainage from the brain. âTreatment of aged mice with vascular endothelial growth factor C enhances meningeal lymphatic drainage.â Increasing drainage led to improved learning and memory in old mice. Effectively reversing the signs of brain ageing. âTreatment of aged mice with vascular endothelial growth factor C improved learning and memory performance.â The scientists also performed some experiments on Alzheimerâs type mice. These mice have genetic mutations which leave them to develop Alzheimerâs disease. Preventing lymphatic drainage accelerated the buildup of Alzheimerâs plaques. âDisruption of meningeal lymphatic vessels promotes Alzheimerâs amyloid beta plaque buildup.â It seems that the lymphatic system is needed to drain Alzheimerâs plaques out of the brain. When this drainage is slowed or impaired the Alzheimerâs plaques increase. âThis resembles human meningeal pathology, and aggravates Alzheimerâs amyloid beta plaque accumulation.â These breakthrough discoveries indicate that Alzheimerâs and age-related cognitive decline could be caused by poor drainage. âMeningeal lymphatic dysfunction may be an aggravating factor in Alzheimerâs disease pathology and in age-associated cognitive decline.â The authors suggest that methods to improve drainage of the brain could treat or prevent Alzheimerâs and cognitive decline. âIncreasing meningeal lymphatic function might be a promising therapeutic target for preventing or delaying age-associated neurological diseases.â The discovery of lymphatic drainage around the brain was made by accident in 2015. It had been observed before but was forgotten for many decades. These findings could lead to powerful treatments for Alzheimerâs and other neurological disorders. This study used vascular endothelial growth factor to accelerate drainage. This is a substance produced naturally in the body. Increasing natural vascular endothelial growth factor could improve brain function and Alzheimerâs outcomes. Another study identified alcohol as another substance that can improve lymphatic drainage of the brain. [Can't see this image? The results were published in the journal Nature. This series of experiments tested different doses of alcohol on mice. They found that small amounts of alcohol increased lymphatic drainage from the brain. âLymphatic function increased in mice treated with low dose alcohol following acute exposure as well as after one month of chronic exposure.â The study found that large amounts of alcohol lowered lymphatic drainage of the brain. These results are backed up by human population studies showing that small amounts of alcohol lower the risk of Alzheimerâs. High alcohol intake is one of the greatest risk factors for Alzheimerâs. ----Important Message---- Important message for men who want to be healthy, happy, and independent to 120 (and keep having great intercourse) [Can't see this image?
