They obsess over it. They give themselves caffeine headaches and all kinds of other health issues. And let’s face it... Caffeine can be not so great. Especially if you’re taking caffeine supplements in super-concentrated forms and at very high doses. If you do that, you can make yourself jittery and feel like crap. Caffeine isn’t just good for you... It also seems to have a protective effect against multiple “aging” diseases. You know the diseases we get as we get older and that have the potential to kill us or make our lives miserable? I’m talking about things like stroke, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. You know I want to prevent ALL of that! And caffeine is an EASY and delicious way to lower your risk. “Caffeine consumption has been associated with lower risks for multiple diseases, including type II diabetes, heart disease, and stroke, but the mechanism underlying these protective effects has been unclear.” Until now, though there has been no clear reason as to the WHY in all of this. It’s just been a bunch of guesswork as to the link between caffeine and prevention against “aging” disease. But now we know a little more. This study shows that caffeine affects how a regulatory protein moves into the mitochondria. And this protein has a protective effect on the heart. “A new study now shows that caffeine promotes the movement of a regulatory protein into mitochondria, enhancing their function and protecting cardiovascular cells from damage.” But, as amazing as that heart protection effect is, that’s not all caffeine does! It also improves the functional capacity of the cells that line the inside of the blood vessels. This is a really big deal. Because (obviously) blood vessels aren’t JUST in your heart. Blood vessels are found throughout your entire body – and some of the smallest and most sensitive ones are in your penis. So, if you can improve the lining of your blood vessels, you are likely to help boost penile blood flow. Of course, better penile blood flow can also mean better “rockiness”. Plain coffee, or coffee with regular table sugar is best. Coffee also contains other protective nutrients. How much coffee should you drink to get the right amount of caffeine? There is a magic number for this – and it’s four cups. Drinking four cups of coffee a day has a real physiological effect on the body and can give you great health benefits. “The protective effect was reached at a concentration equivalent to consumption of four cups of coffee, suggesting the effect may be physiologically relevant.” But a caution about specialty coffee drinks! A Starbucks habit is probably pretty good for you, but not if your daily cups of coffee have a bunch of fat in them. Because an overabundance of fat in your diet can LEAD to the stuff that the caffeine protects you from. If you want to lighten your coffee, go for skim milk. Sugar is fine (real sugar... but NOT sugar substitutes.) Whatever you do, don’t put soy milk in your coffee… That's because soy is HIGHLY estrogenic and can cause your testosterone level to drop.
