Today’s Top Stories From the Breitbart News Desk The strength of the labor market’s reboun

[Maganomics]( Today’s Top Stories From the Breitbart News Desk The strength of the labor market’s rebound in May was highlighted by today’s release of the Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey showing a record number of hires in June and a record jump in job openings. Hard-hat America – construction and manufacturing – added a million jobs in May. While the strong numbers still leave a shortfall of 11 million compared to a year ago, it’s clear the economy’s recovery was stronger than expected in its earliest stages. One of the reasons for the better-than-expected results was likely the Trump administration’s Paycheck Protection Program, an innovative small-business loan program built to encourage employers to keep workers on their payrolls rather than force them into unemployment. The mainstream media’s attention fixated this week not on the success of the program but on the identity of the borrowers and the alleged faults of the program, such as a hedge fund or restaurant chain getting funding. Ridiculously, one headline pointed out that $273 million of loans went to Trump donors – which might sound scandalous until a moment’s calculation reveals that amounts to just 0.05% of the $511 billion lent out under the PPP. Not even a rounding error. As a rule, all these stories ignored that the central point of the program was to keep Americans employed – even if they work for a Trump donor. – Alex Marlow, Breitbart News Network --------------------------------------------------------------- TOP STORY [image] [Hires Surged to All-Time High and Job Openings Unexpectedly Soared in May]( The reopening of the U.S. economy in May saw a frenetic pace of hiring never before seen in a single month, according to the Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, released Tuesday. The number of hires, which includes employees rehired to jobs in businesses shuttered during lockdowns, soared a record 2.44 million to 6.5 million, the highest monthly number ever recorded in data stretching back to the turn of the century.
