[View in browser]( [["Maangchi"]] Maangchi's 10th Anniversary potluck party Last month I had a potluck party with my readers & viewers at the [YouTube Space in New York City](. The event went very well and was a lot of fun! There was lots of food and also the Korean government's Agro Trade Corporation (aT) brought some Korean products for us to sample, as well as a gift bag of Korean ingredients for everyone who came. Some of my readers performed on the stage: David Irish and Carolyn Joy sang Korean songs, and Korean drummers arranged by Agro Trade put on an amazing performance. We had a great time eating delicious homemade dishes, talking to each other, making new friends, and watching performances. I quickly edited the video and uploaded it, [you can watch the video from the party here](. Many people left nice comments on the video to congratulate me on my 10 year anniversary. [One of the comments, from Putri Rahmadani](, made me so happy, so I'd like to share with you: "Congratulations Maangchi! 🎉🎉. I love your videos... I'm always happy to see your tutorial because it's easy for amateur like me to follow. Before I knew your channel, I never though that cooking will be this easy and fun! 💕💕" [Spicy Chewy Noodles (Jjolmyeon: 쫄면)]( In May I posted a new recipe for Korean jjolmyeon, chewy wheat noodles served chilled in a spicy, sweet, and sour sauce with vegetables. It was very popular! I didn't know so many people were interested in this dish. I laughed loudly when I read this comment on Youtube from Iloverrb: "I was chewing gum while watching this, and I almost swallowed it when you were eating the noodles at the end haha X'D This looks really good!!" : ) [Get the recipe & watch the video!]( [How to Shop in a Korean Grocery Store (Part 2)]( [Part two of my Korean grocery store walkthrough series]( was also released in May. The video shows you how to choose Korean soy sauces, pastes, and spices. I was happy to hear that these videos are helping many people to navigate Korean grocery stores. Diego Tan wrote to me: "Very informative video, thanks for taking the time to shop with us! Even though I've taught myself how to read the Korean Hangul (which REALLY helps when you're shopping) I wasn't always sure what the differences were between the varieties of soy sauces, pastes and spices. Google Translate partially did the job, but going through the specifics with you in this video is way better and it has clarified a lot of the questions that I had in mind. This is now my go-to video the next time I need to remind myself of what to get." Someone else asked a very important question and I wanted to share my reply with you because you might be wondering the same thing. Avi Bonn asked: "How long can we keep these items, especially the sauces? What is the shelf life if there is no expiration date? I usually put everything into the refrigerator, but can I keep them at room temperature?" I answered: You don't need to refrigerate soy sauce, fish sauce, and rice syrup, but doenjang (fermented soy bean paste), gochujang (hot pepper paste), and chunjang (black bean paste) should be kept in the fridge after you open them. And hot pepper flakes should be kept in the freezer." [Watch the video and come shopping with me!]( Meet Sofia, Who Melts My Heart It's important to me that everyone be able to understand and enjoy my videos if they want to, so I've been adding English captions to them for a long time now. And then YouTube added the ability for anyone to translate one of my English captions into their own language! Isn't it awesome? I was so excited when they made it, and I always encourage people to help translate captions if they can. My volunteer translators are very special to me, I'm so impressed by their kindness and generosity. I noticed that one woman named Sofia was translating many captions into Greek, almost every day! I was kind of worried because I know translating takes a lot of time and effort. What if she was a teenager who should be studying? Do her parents know their daughter spends a lot of time captioning my videos? I thought I should ask her to slow down and concentrate on her own studies, if she was a student. I contacted her and found out she is 21 year old Greek lady who has been cooking my recipes for a long time! I sent my little gift to her home with my thank you note. I was so touched and inspired when I read her email, that I asked her if I could share it in my monthly letter. She agreed. Thank you so much for the gift and the message! You can't imagine my excitement when I read that comment! We're a family of four living in Greece. Also, we are all deaf. We have a fifth member, a cat, he's also deaf! The fact that you always add English caption to your videos has made it possible for me to watch your videos and understand everything! Thank you. When I first came across your channel, I was always talking about your videos to my family and telling them about the food I wanted to try. They started watching too, so now we always talk about your recipes with my family and try to cook some of them with whatever ingredient is available. My brother talks aaaall the time about your Bibimbap! He even told me: "Tell her I love her Bibimbap, I want her to know!!" We all have some favorite recipes from you! I thought of translating your captions because your videos are so warm, you're a great person and I want everyone who speak Greek to have a chance to meet you through your videos! I replied to her that she should make the soup first, and then when the buldak is almost done, she should reheat the soup and then serve them both hot at the same time. She left another comment to thank me and said: "Happy Mother's Day!" I was a little surprised because I totally forgot Mother's Day was the next day. She's such a nice person because her good wish not only made me feel happy but I also called my own mom living in Los Angeles to wish her a happy mother's day! Thanks Pristin!
