Korean bulgogi beef BBQ 🥩 crispy seasoned seaweed ⚓️ and the contest winners! 👏🎊👏🎉👏 #  [View in browser](  #  [[]  #  It's still me!  No, no, no, coronavirus! I'm not welcoming you! Whenever I go out, I cover my body tightly like this. It's a little uncomfortable physically but I feel safe mentally. I miss the old days when I used to walk around NYC and meet my friends.   #  New server announcement!  To get more reliable service I changed the server that sends my Maangchi Letter every month. Today's letter is the first one on the new server! A new server is very sensitive so I can't send out the letter to everyone at the same time. It has to go in batches so Gmail and Yahoo and AOL don't freak out from all the emails being sent by me.  I'm sending this on September 1st but you might not be getting it for a few days. I hope you understand. I'm so nervous, what if you guys are waiting for my letter and think it will never come?  Don't worry, starting next month it will always be sent on the first of the month!  #  Meet the Korean readymade meal package contest winners!  [Susan](, one of my winners of the [contest](, is so happy with a big smile taking a photo with her gift box! Are those some tomatoes in her backyard? I'd like to visit her house and talk about Korean cooking, but not now!  I [blogged about the contest results]( and showed more social media posts from the winners on my website. 👏 Don't be disappointed if you didn't win, you can always buy some of these products at your [local Korean grocery store](, or from [Amazon](!   [Read about it on my blog](  #  New recipe: Easy bulgogi  This recipe is an [easy, simplified version of traditional Korean bulgogi]((Korean beef BBQ). I published a written recipe for this without video way back in 2008. It's been very popular and many people told me they made it and loved it. Eventually I filmed this video for it.  The recipe is super easy with only a few ingredients, and I show you the new method of cooking that I discovered that makes it taste like a charcoal BBQ!   [How to make easy bulgogi](  #  New recipe: Seasoned seaweed  [Gim-muchim (seasoned seaweed)]( is an easy recipe that I make very frequently for my family. We love the unique, kind of ocean flavor. It tastes salty, nutty, garlicky, slightly sweet, and most of all the ocean aroma boosts your appetite!  You can finish a bowl of rice with only this and kimchi. That's why Korean say it's a "bap-doduk," which means a "rice thief." [Rice](, [gim-muchim](, and [kimchi]( can be a simple and decent meal!   [Make gim-muchim!](  #  My reader posted this photo on her Twitter  [Durian_2020]( said: "I made Korean beef bulgogi for dinner. Turned out great!" The beef looks very tender and juicy and delicious!   [My easy bulgogi recipe](  #  Daniel's Korean BBQ & side dishes!  [Daniel's Korean BBQ table setting]( looks perfect! He used pork belly and marinated beef, and cooked on a grill pan in the middle of the table, just like Korean BBQ restaurant! I see rice in a large bowl, [spicy rice cakes](, [steamed mandu (dumplings)](, [kimchi](, green onion salad, sliced mushrooms and zucchini on a large plate.  Oh, and 3 eggs on a pan of stir-fried rice, so that means it's a party for 3 people? - from Detective Maangchi : )   [My pork belly BBQ recipe](  #  My readers' touching stories!  These days I often receive messages from my readers who say they open Korean food businesses with my recipes like [kimchi]( or [kkwabaegi]( (twisted Korean doughnuts). D Specter, who I mentioned in the August letter, opened a Korean restaurant and sent me another message.  Hello again Maangchi! Remember when I told you that I used your kimchi recipe for my business? I added this [Kimchi Jjigae](again and guess what?? Yesss!! They loved it! My business is doing really good because of your great and delicious recipes! Thank you so much!! 🥰 - [D Specter](  #  I got a nice message from Brenda in new Zealand, who sounds like a great Korean cook. She can even impress her Korean friends with her cooking skill!  Maangchi, I have followed you for sooo many years. When I go to my church and sit with my Korean Chinese Asian friends, they ask me, "Sister Brenda, What have you cooked this week?" I say, "Maangchi taught me Korean seaweed chips, crispy seaweed noodle rolls, and kimchi!" They are ALL marvel at how much I learned their cultural cooking through Maangchi, because I am maori here in New Zealand. By the way if you ever come back here, you are welcome to come and stay in my home! I thank the Lord Jesus I found you all those years ago.  Much love from [Brenda Kara in New Zealand](  #  Mere, me, and her niece in 2011  Brenda's message above really reminded me about my friend Mere in Rotorua, New Zealand who was also Maori. Sadly she is not in this world anymore, but I think about her often. When I met her in 2011 she was very sick and carried an oxygen tank on her back to breathe. I can't forget her, her family, and her whole village's warm welcome. She had a party when I went there and she invited so many people, maybe more than 50, who were all waiting there for me. I was very surprised at the food she made. Hot [mandu]( (dumplings) in a huge pot, [gimbap (seaweed rice rolls)](, [japchae](, [seasoned dried shredded squid](, [fermented squid](, cakes, cookies, and etc etc. It was a huge feast! Everybody was happy, and the children were jumping around in her spacious house. But it was the first and last time meeting Mere in my life. Whenever I think about her, it feels like around my heart is soaring. What do you call this symptom? Yes, a broken heart! Ever since I met her and her friends, I fell in love with Maori people. They are so friendly. She and I made a video for "[Paua Fritters](" together, if you want to see.   #  Time to say good bye for now  Stay healthy with your delicious cooking and see you next month again!  Love from Maangchi  #  This email was sent to {EMAIL} You received this email because you are registered to get Maangchi's letter  [Unsubscribe here](  #  © 2020 Maangchi LLC Â
