Gimmari (spicy seaweed noodle rolls) 👏 Cinnamon cookies 👏👍 and kimchi stew! 👏👍🔥  [View in browser](   [[]   Deer at the beach  I went to Montauk beach this month. One day I was putting on my makeup to prepare for filming a video (by the way, the video will be posted in July), and glancing out the window I couldn't beleive there was a deer there. My heart was beating! A deer at the beach, I've never heard of that! You can see the waves in background with beautiful scenery, and a deer! I was thinking about what I could give him. I knew there was a carrot in my fridge. "Should I give this carrot to him? He might run away. Should I throw it out the window? What if he is surprised?" Instead I grabbed my camera and took this photo. Suddenly he turned his head and looked at me. He and I looked at each other for a few seconds. I wish I could communicate with him: "What do you want to eat? I'd like to make some food for you!" Later I was told that there are a lot of deer in the area, and sometimes hungry deer come out and dig in garbage cans. I felt sad. Just that one second that we looked at each other is still in my heart.    [Interview with Korean SBS-TV](  Sean Kim, a Korean reporter for Korean SBS-TV working in Washington DC contacted me for an interview. I usually don't like to be interviewed, but in his polite email he added that his wife has been cooking my recipes for a long time. It made me decide to meet him. SBS set up the interview in Central Park with a camera crew and it was broadcast on Korean national TV. And they also made [this clip for their YouTube channel with English captions](. He contactacted me after it was on TV, and he said they had great feedback from the interview and that many Koreans called the station to say they were surprised that so many non-Koreans were cooking Korean food. They told SBS they were proud of me and what I'm doing. So if you're interested, [check out the interview]( and be sure to turn on English captions!   [Watch the video!](   [New recipe: Gimmari](  [Gimmari are crispy seaweed noodle rolls](, a snack food that is popular with Korean street vendors and also sold frozen in Korean grocery stores. They’re made of glass noodles rolled in seaweed paper (gim) and then deep fried. It's usualy served with spicy rice cake (tteokbokki in Korean) with lots of broth so that you can dip the roll into the spciy broth and eat.   [Make gimmari](   [New recipe: Gyepi-manju](  I posted this recipe just a couple of days ago. [Gyepi-manju (계피만주)]( are cinnamon cookies filled with sweet bean paste. They are so soft and creamy inside that they will melt in your mouth once you bite into them. You can use sugar or your favorite sweetener.   [My cinnamon manju recipe!](   [New recipe: Tuna kimchi-jjigae](  This bubbling, hot kimchi stew with tuna (called chamchi-kimchi-jjigae in Korean, 참치김치찌개), so easy to make, satisfying, and delicious. It’s made with just a few ingredients! How simple it is to make!   [Make kimchi-jjigae!](   [John's tuna kimchi stew!](  [John made chamchi-kimchi-jjigae]( not long after I posted the video and posted this photo on twitter! Yum!    Congratulations, Zavier!  Zavier works at a Mexican restaurant and emailed me to say his restaurant recently had a cooking competition. He made kimchi and he won 1st place! Everybody at work loved his kimchi and the jar was empty in 30 minutes. He said, "I cannot thank you enough for bringing such joy into my life through your recipes!"  If any of you feel the same way as Zavier this is my answer: "I cannot thank you enough for bringing such joy into my life through your passion for cooking!"   G[immari]( party!  My reader "[Keiks13](" on twitter made all these after I posted my gimmari recipe. She made spicy rice cake, seaweed rice rolls (gimbap), and gimmari. These 3 dishes are a fantastic combination for a party!    [Erica's fermented soft shell crab drama!](  Erica in Rhode Island, USA, made [ganjang-gejang]( (fermented raw crab in soy sauce) and [posted this photo on her instagram](. I was laughing while reading her post, so I'd like to share this. Today we picked up 2 pounds of soft shell crab from [@fearlessfishmarket]( (graciously & expertly cleaned by [@nikhil_nn]() and prepared [maangchi’s ganjang gejang]( brine.  I forgot that while it was cooling (the crabs were in the fridge!) because the Rhode Island Senate & House were voting on the Reproductive Privacy Act. I hustled down before the House vote and a car full of men swerved at me while I was locking up my car. They knew why I was there and I knew why they were there. They honked and screamed at me; it wasn’t really catcalling. It was scary as sh*t, though.  Hours later, after the bill was passed and @govraimondo signed it, I was sitting in a local bar and remembered I’d left this half done.  I’m mad and, hours later, sick. This is not okay. And I will not be scared away. And now the crabs are marinating.   [Make ganjang-gaejang](   [Ken's Spicy Fire Chicken with Cheese!](  Ken made this delicious-looking [cheese buldak]( and [posted it on Twitter](. Looks awesome! Sometimes I am inspired by my readers' photos. I couldn't resist making cheese buldak right after seeing this photo!   [Make cheese buldak!](    Happy July, everybody! Take care of yourself and see you in a month! The photo was taken at Montauck beach.
