House Republicans have no shame {NAME}, I’m once again disgusted and ashamed by the actions of my Republican colleagues in Congress. On the heels of several mass shootings, far-right politicians have replaced their American flag lapels with AR-15 pins. Take a look at this image. Image credit: The Daily Beast There’s a lot to unpack here. The American flag lapel worn by politicians across the political spectrum is symbolic of our duty to the American people as elected representatives. It signifies that despite our disagreements, we’re all fighting for the same nation. By replacing it with an AR-15 pin, these extremist Republicans are making a statement – that their loyalty lies with the gun lobby and far-right base that continually ignores the epidemic of gun violence that is tearing us apart. I’m disappointed to see my colleagues lean further into the culture wars. [Please sign my petition denouncing House Republicans for this divisive and disrespectful act.]( [SIGN HERE]( Of course, the AR-15 pin is also a slap in the face to all the folks who have lost loved ones in assault weapon shootings. Imagine how it feels to be someone who’s been personally impacted by gun violence – like I have – and to see your elected representative wearing a pin of the deadly weapon. Tone-deaf is an understatement. This gesture speaks volumes about the priorities of Republicans in Congress. They spend their time concocting symbolic gestures rather than crafting policies and passing laws that actually improve the lives of Americans. Some of us in Congress would like to do our job, and I’m demanding better from my coworkers.
