The horrors of gun violence are unfolding in front of us {NAME}, you may have seen the news this week about the 6-year-old in Virginia who brought a gun to school and shot his teacher. It’s a horrifying story, and sadly, this isn’t the only time this has happened. Not even close. There have been many heartbreaking examples of children bringing loaded guns to school causing chaos and terror – and yet we still fail to enact meaningful gun reforms. Here’s another jaw-dropping stat for you: Since the 1999 Columbine massacre, more than 331,000 students have experienced gun violence at school ([per reporting from the Washington Post](. If we can’t keep children safe in schools, what does that say about who we are? Are we okay with this as the status quo?? Time and time again, we face our own failures to regulate responsible gun ownership in the United States, and the consequences are deadly. We have children who barely know how to read and who are accessing powerful weapons and wreaking havoc. However, according to Republicans and the gun lobbies that refuse to act, there is nothing that can be done but to offer “thoughts and prayers”. I know the toll that gun violence takes on a family firsthand, and I’m sick of seeing this epidemic continue to affect so many Americans with no signs of slowing down. My heart goes out to Abigail Zwerner – the teacher who was shot this week – but I know that’s not enough to make this right. I pray that the children in her class, the children who are confused and scared and may not be able to understand what happened, may one day live free from the terror of these tragedies. I’ve been leading the fight in Congress to end gun violence, and I’m more motivated than ever to pass legislation that will make these tragedies a thing of the past. However, I’m up against a Republican majority in the House, and it’s not going to be easy to get the support we need to fix this for good. [Can you chip in to my campaign to help support my efforts? It won’t happen overnight, but I’m committed to building a grassroots movement that will build pro-reform Democratic power in the long term.]( [DONATE NOW]( Thanks, – Lucy McBath --------------------------------------------------------------- This email was sent to {EMAIL}.
