That’s why when I saw this… [AP — Ex-wife accuses Missouri GOP Senate candidate Eric Greitens of physical abuse in affidavit made public Monday.]( I knew what I had to do — no matter what. But first, let me explain. This is the same guy who resigned in disgrace while under investigation for assault, blackmail, and stealing from his own veterans’ charity. So with this news, I’ve had a lot of people tell me I should keep my mouth shut. They know that Eric Greitens is still the clear frontrunner for the GOP nomination in this race, and that with recent polling showing us tied for the November election, this news might make him easier to beat. People I know and respect deeply have shared that perspective with me. Even reporters have said I should be silent. But that’s not why I’m running this race. I’m running because Missourians deserve a warrior for working people in the U.S. Senate — someone they can trust will always fight for them. Someone who reflects those three Marine Corps values: Honor, courage, and commitment. So I can’t keep my mouth shut. I’m going to say the only thing I know is right, regardless of what it means for this election: Eric Greitens needs to exit this race. He is clearly unfit to serve anywhere but a jail cell. And that accountability is more important than just one election. Since this news, we’ve already seen mega–donors, political insiders, and grifters like Steve Bannon pledge their continued support for Greitens. And they know they have backups too — this field of candidates is filled with career politicians and political elites with decades of experience in stripping our communities for parts on behalf of giant corporations. To them, corruption and criminality are positive features, not bugs. So regardless of what happens on the Republican side of this race, our mission remains unchanged.
