It was a month marked by Google HQ visits, AI (if you weren’t already sick of it), and enough controversy to fuel a thousand water cooler moments. Yup, all of that and more. Let’s get you caught up. Google’s Rumored Core Update (Good News or Bad News?) Google’s resident cryptologist, Danny Sullivan, has hinted that another core update is on the horizon. “...in the coming weeks” is all we have to go off for the moment. He didn’t give us an exact TOA. Although he did offer this, “I do hope we can improve in some of these cases where creators with their hearts in the right places, and who are doing the real content effort behind that, are rewarded as we should be doing.” Bullish for sites that were hit by HCU? Your guess is as good as mine. We'll keep you posted as more details emerge. Creators Meet with Google SearchLiaison (Danny Sullivan) It’s been a busy month for Danny. He also hosted private meetings with small publishers. First, he met online with folk from RetroDodo and HouseFresh. Danny was then due to be in the UK, so met in person with Brandon Saltalamacchia of RetroDodo. The meeting was held at Google’s London HQ. According to Danny Sullivan, the goal is to gather real feedback from creators who have been severely impacted by the HCU and other algorithm updates. He wants the Search Quality team to hear firsthand about the struggles of those on the front lines of SEO. So, is it all just a clever PR stunt? Will Google recover a few sites that have recently been in the spotlight and leave everyone else out in the cold? Actions speak louder than words, and there's been a lot of hot air with little remedy, so call me skeptical. [Read Brandon’s take]( on his visit to Google’s London HQ here. AI Overviews Fizzling Out Faster Than a Fourth of July Sparkler Remember those AI-generated summaries Google was hyping? New data reveals they're only showing up in 7% of searches (that’s down from a previous high of 40-50%). Yup, seven percent. What's the deal? Some say it's Google's way of responding to criticism after those “drink urine” and “eat rocks” debacles. Others believe it's a sign that AI-generated content just isn't cutting it in the real world. Whatever the reason, perhaps AI Overviews aren't quite the SEO game-changer we were promised. But don't count them out just yet—this is just one of many chapters in the AI vs. human content saga. 🍿 Ahrefs’ Newest Feature: Content Changes Ahrefs just rolled out the ultimate SEO crystal ball: a "Content Changes" feature that lets you see how your page updates affect traffic, good or bad. Think of it as a time machine for your content, revealing which tweaks boosted your traffic and which ones were a total flop. This is the kind of intel that separates the SEO pros from the wannabes. So, if you're an Ahrefs user, stop guessing and start knowing… …and with that, you’re all caught up. What are your thoughts on Google’s insider meetings with creators? And how are you going to put Ahrefs’ new feature to work? Let us know! Adam Steele Partner & COO / [loganix.com]( Your premium SEO partner for agencies & in-house teams.
