Nope, just the pure, unadulterated ramblings of an (over-caffeinated) human brain. Let’s get you caught up with this month in SEO. Google’s June 2024 Spam Update Google is unleashing its spam-fighting hounds again. The update is reported to take just a week to roll out. It’s meant to penalize tactics that go against the search engine’s spam policies. Sounds good in theory, but as recent history has shown, there’s a potential to hit legitimate websites that are following the rules to a tee. To see the status of all Google’s algo updates, check in with the [Google Search Status Dashboard](. More from the Google "Black Box" Since last month’s leak, those in the know have been dissecting its contents, and there are some interesting findings: - Google's all about relevant, in-depth content. Enter siteFocusScore and siteRadius. - Forget what Google says; the leak reveals that user engagement metrics like SiteClicks and even ChromeInTotal are in play. - There’s been a lot of talk about "high-quality content." Well, TextConfidence and EffortScore suggest there may be some truth behind the claims. - The TrustedAnchors metric confirms it—despite recent comments from spokespeople, quality backlinks from reputable sources are still important. Google spokesperson Davis Thompson has cautioned SEOs not to take the leak too seriously. [He said]( "We would caution against making inaccurate assumptions about Search based on out-of-context, outdated, or incomplete information." Healthy dose of salt here—despite the official takes, the leak raises questions about Google’s transparency. AI Overviews Visibility on the Wane New data reveals that Google’s AI Overviews now appear in less than 15% of searches. It’s a steep drop from their initial 84% appearance rate. What’s the deal-e-o? Some speculate it’s a response to the backlash over questionable AI-generated answers. Others believe Google is simply tweaking its algorithm to strike the right balance between AI and traditional search results. New Study Shows Promising Trends Marketers are betting big on SEO in 2024. A new study reveals that 82.5% of marketing experts plan to increase their SEO budgets this year. It’s clear marketers see the value in organic search. Focusing on quality, user-centric content was another key finding, with 59.2% of marketers reporting that it’s their most effective tool for generating new business. And, despite the hype, 68% of marketers aren’t sweating the rise of AI. [Read all the insights here]( for yourself. And boom—you’re all caught up. What are your thoughts on the Google leak?
