My habit of asking questions is not always loved in my household. Email not displaying correctly? [View the web version]( [photo]( My habit of asking questions is not always loved in my household. My kids become annoyed when I excitedly ask them about their day. My wife becomes nervous when I casually ask her how to get a stain out of carpet. My dog becomes indignant when I sleepily ask him whether he can wait until morning. However, asking questions is what local journalists do, and I’m now in my 32nd year in journalism in Douglas County. I’m proud to work with a growing team of journalists at the Journal-World who also are committed to asking questions. Just recently, we’ve asked questions about the costs of the city’s homeless programs. We’ve asked questions about the allegations of ethical violations regarding the local district attorney. And every day we ask questions about the crime and public safety incidents that are occurring in our community. We ask the questions because we know that you often don’t have the time to do so, and we know that good communities become better when there are people asking thoughtful questions. Now, my question to you is: Can you help us do more of it? More than ever, journalism is directly supported by the subscription dollars of our readers. Subscription revenue is a larger source of revenue for the Journal-World than advertising revenue. The Journal-World is fortunate to be in a community that really cares about quality information. Between our print and digital subscribers, we have more than 10,000 paying subscribers, which gives us a really strong base to practice journalism. But, we can always use more because the questions that need asking aren’t shrinking. I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider becoming a Journal-World subscriber today. Our easiest and most affordable option is an all-access digital subscription. Click the button below and it will take you to a sign up page where you can start a subscription for $5.94 your first month, and then just $12.94 for each month thereafter. A digital subscription gives you two ways to read the Journal-World for just one price. You can log onto our website LJWorld.com anytime to see the latest headlines and a complete listing of all our work and you also can read a replica, digital edition of that day’s newspaper. You can see every headline, every photo, every ad, and read the comics too. And, if you have any questions (yes, we try to answer questions too) you can call our subscription department at 785-832-7199. Thank you for your consideration, and thank you for caring about local journalism. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
