[LiveAuctioneers.com]( [View Auction]( Freeman’s American Art and Pennsylvania Impressionists sale is led by Henry Koerner’s The Station. Offered at auction for the first time, the 1978 painting is the crown jewel of the private collection of Dr. Robert Craig, a close friend of the artist. Women artists are front and center with selections from Martha Walter, Jessie Arms Botke, Emma Fordyce MacRae, and Fern Isabel Coppedge. Additional highlights include a quintessential Pennsylvania Impressionist winter scene by Edward Redfield, a 1954 Charles Burchfield watercolor, and an important 1898 pastel portrait by Mary Cassatt. [Mary Cassatt (American, 1844-1926) Mrs. Harris Whittemore and Baby Helen]( This beautiful portrait is an example of Cassatt’s mature style and evidence of her experimentation with pastel throughout the 1890s. The double portrait depicts the wife of Mrs. Harris Whittemore, Jr., Justine Whittemore, and their youngest daughter, Helen. [BID ON THIS ITEM]( [Henry Koerner (American, 1915-1991) The Station]( Offered at auction for the first time and seen by the public only at the occasional exhibition, The Station is, according to the artist’s son, “among the five most important that Koerner did” after 1953, a time when the artist started to adopt the broken brushwork of his later work. Its monumentality, rare in the artist’s work, commands its relevance, both in the artist’s oeuvre and within the history of American art. [BID ON THIS ITEM]( [Edward Willis Redfield (American, 1869-1965) Winter Holiday]( Winter Holiday offers a view of the Centre Bridge region of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, just north of New Hope, where Redfield moved with his wife, Elise, in 1898. Redfield's mastery lies in his ability to translate the harshness of winter into a celebration of nature's beauty and resilience, transforming what could be a desolate scene into a lively vision of outdoor recreation.
