[LiveAuctioneers.com]( [View Auction]( James and Christine Heusinger started collecting Japanese art in the late 1970's and expanded it through various dealers. The items offered through auction are from their personal collection. Recently, the Heusingers made a gift to the Cleveland Museum of Art of works by Seifu Yohei III and the Seifu Yohei Studio-one of the finest ceramics collections found outside of Japan. [A Fine Japanese Lacquer Suzuri-bako, Autumn Night with Deer]( The motif is a common one in Japanese decorative arts--lacquer, textiles, porcelain, and poetry--and is a symbol of fall and sadness. The decorative scheme continues on the interior of the cover with a nighttime autumn landscape of various finely detailed flowers on the banks of a meandering stream under a crescent moon in gilded clouds. Purchased from Grace Tsumugi Fine. [BID ON THIS ITEM]( [A Fine Japanese Red Lacquer Box with Sword Motifs by Mochizuki Hanzan]( Signed by Mochizuki Hanzan (Japanese 1743-1790), with simulated sword motifs on an exterior finely executed in lacquer with tsuba (sword guards) and metal sword fittings (kozuka) in relief.
