[LiveAuctioneers.com]( [View Auction]( Santa Fe’s August 23 American Indian Arts sale features 900 lots and more than 1,000 objects exemplifying the broad diversity of Native American and Pueblo art. The sale showcases the long history of indigenous weaving, pottery, painting, basketry, carving and jewelry making, from pre-history to contemporary iterations of the earliest traditions and mythologies. [Preston Singletary, Amber Basket, 2011]( This is a rare and exceptional example of Singletary’s glass work, which he has described as enabling him to explore more fully his personal relationship to both his Native American culture and his chosen medium. This piece is a contemporary expression of a traditional Tlingit basket, an example of which can also be seen in lot 204 of this sale. [BID ON THIS ITEM]( [Tony Da, Two Toned Bear with Turquoise and Coral Inlay]( Tony Da has been described as the first Pueblo “rock star”. Grandson of Maria Martinez and son of Popovi Da he revolutionized Pueblo pottery. This bear exemplifies many of his innovations, including sgraffito etching and inlaid stones. His output was limited by his very limited career span of only 15 years. [BID ON THIS ITEM]( [Kenneth Begay, (Dine [Navajo], 1913–1977), Silver, Turquoise, and Ironwood State Shapes Concho Belt]( This silver concho belt is a wonderfully esoteric example of Kenneth Begay’s legendary modern approach to Navajo jewelry. Commissioned by the S + H Company, it features 9 conchos, each with a carved ironwood representation of the nine states where S + H did business.
