On the evening preceding Lunar New Yearâs Day, many Chinese families gather for an annual reunion dinner. The family home is cleaned thoroughly to sweep away any ill fortune and make way for incoming good luck. Windows and doors are decorated with red paper symbols of wealth, happiness and longevity; and monetary gifts are given in red paper envelopes.
