According to Asian astrology, anyone born in the dog year will be communicative, serious and responsible in the workplace. While the centuries-old Chinese New Year celebration shares some customs with its Western counterpart, such as fireworks and street festivities, it also perpetuates many traditions of its own. On the evening preceding Lunar New Year’s Day, many Chinese families gather for an annual reunion dinner. The family home is cleaned thoroughly to sweep away any ill fortune and make way for incoming good luck. Windows and doors are decorated with red paper symbols of wealth, happiness and longevity; and monetary gifts are given in red paper envelopes. To celebrate Chinese New Year, here is a selection of beautiful objects representing the ancient arts of China.
