how did Google treat you with the recent updates? [.] Hey there! It's been a scorching summer, again, dramatic for many, including some very close friends, and I hope you are OK. Here's a couple of links and related takes from me, and I hope you find them interesting. If not, you can always unsubscribe - or let me know what you're up to (crypto anyone?) Google Link Spam update It took a couple of weeks for Google to "finish" the link spam update this summer. It was all mashed up with many other updates, including the most "Title Rewriting Update." What's going on? Have you been affected by the update? Hit reply and let me know! Google says they try to nullify spam links. Yes, they try that since I'm in the industry. And there's no question that their systems get better, as do the spam and paid links. Many verticals reported that they are still outranked by SEOs using the same old tactics. It's been a bit like whack-a-mole since I started in 2003. The question is - are you up-to-date? Are your link providers up-to-date? Are the providers of SEO tools you use focusing on helping you understand the quality of a link, or do they have issues understanding these same concepts? You may know that I do not recommend Ahrefs DR or Moz DA others - [and here is why](. The post may come across as self-promotional, I know. But you know what? My whole business life is about building better metrics than the average stuff you get out there. I am waking up every day, thinking about links. For other aspects, I love those "popular" tools and as a link data source, of course. Are you building those golden links? It came across naturally in 2009, and only years later, I understood how evergreen my "Golden Rules of Link Building" were. Our Link Building Clients never had a penalty, ever. [Maybe that's some motivation to take a look?]( Title Update Have you been badly affected by the recent Google Title Update? I've seen some "research" based on minuscule sample sizes of 500 URLs here and 2000 there, but nothing huge from companies that you would think have all the data from their 100 million keywords they crawl per hour. Did I miss something big? I'm on a social media diet, so that's quite likely. Let me know. Link Building Companies More than ever, there's a lot of money in link building in 2021, so EVERYONE is doing it - and offering it. No matter what Google says, people are doing it... building links. pushing hard. not the "build content and the links will come magically" dream. Nobody told you? ...and in the worst case, do a cleanup and disavow after having tanked. Of course, you could avoid that by being proactive and simulating your links' risk before you build them. ...and some "Digital PR" is real legit PR and not link buying, yes. However, there's quite a couple of spammy patterns and I think you should be aware of them. You may get in trouble otherwise. Some people (link sellers, of course) got annoyed when I put this together in only a few hours from live inputs in communities, from scammed clients. Their clients? And can you believe it - I even got temporarily banned from "related" mods (that later left their mod job, surprisingly, when I got back in). At any rate, here are some ways how your link building deliverables [can be VERY bad for you](, and you should know. Private Site Clinics You may recall that I was hustling for [weekly site clinic shows in 2020](, and they were fun, and thousands learned from it. I've switched to doing private site clinics, and our customers love it. As you can imagine having private time is very different on every level. I want to share one feedback from last week here that I found pleasant to read. Chris has an extensive wealth of knowledge and is worth every penny. I have grown and expanded my horizons with the concise and to-the-point recommendations that he has given me. As I move forward in the next chapter of my life, I will forever be grateful that I spoke and took heed of his direction. [If you also want to spend time with me, you can book that here.]( LinkResearchTools While I have been a lot more silent than in the past years, we're more active than ever. A lot of under-the-hood optimizations for the core product happened already and are in the pipeline. Also, we're working on a couple of big things, and I will let you know when we have something to show - those who know me know that. Meanwhile, if there's anything we can do to do your work with [LinkResearchTools]( better, let me know - or my colleagues. We appreciate every feedback you have for us, and now is a perfect time for it! And you know - simulating the potential risk of links (before you build them) is something you only get with LRT. Let me know if there's anything else you need. Stay safe, and I am looking forward to your feedback. To Your Success, Christoph C. Cemper Founder & CEO LinkResearchTools PS: I also un-followed thousands of people on social media in summer-like three years ago, to de-clutter my timeline. Nothing personal.
